I personally prefer the cook book I am not really interested in live cooking shows. I also do a lot of creating my own recipes and experiment with ideas. Sometimes they don't work but sometimes they do.

I also use cookbooks it's more precise. Normally cooking shows do the short cut method of cooking to save on airtime so a lot of things are missing they cook food to fast.

I normally make my own recipes or get them off line. I'd think a cook book is sufficient though if you've already got the basics, but then it also depends upon the individuals learning style and how much they already know about cooking.

I did a course years ago on learning and how people learn differently. I think a cookbook or show could be equally effective and it depends upon the individual. Personally I'm learning 20 new dishes at the moment (work in a kitchen) and I prefer to be shown once then take a pic and write down the method...so a mixture of show and book I suppose
