About every four years we have a leap year. This means we add a day in February and have 366 days to the year instead of the usual 365. If we don't have a leap year every four years we will lose nearly 6 hours off of our calendar each year. That woud mean that after 100 years the calendar would be off by about 24 days. Julius Caesar, the famous Roman general, is the one who introduced the leap year to the Julian calendar 2000 years ago. This added an extra month every few years so there was the correct seasonal changes. But this put alot of leap years into the calendar and it was corrected about 1500 years later with the Gregorian calendar. The next leap year will be February, 29, 2020

I have a friend that was born in a leap year on February 29. She has a big birthday celebration every four years.
