At a loss for words.

Many of you are aware that I have a very close friend who joined the army a little late in life and has been stationed in Kentucky for the last two years. I have referred to him as N in posts. Last week something strange happened after a text message conversation while I was grocery shopping on Thursday evening, he went silent. No responses to anything. That night I didn't think much of it because he often fell asleep early, or got last minute notice that they were going to the field. It got strange when by Saturday I hadn't heard from him, because Monday was a holiday they were given a four day weekend. Nothing all weekend. I called and it went straight to voice mail. I thought okay maybe he is in the field, maybe his phone died while he was patrolling or whatever. By Wednesday I knew something was wrong. I called again, left a message. His phone was still going to voicemail. I saw that he hadn't been active on Facebook since reading a message from me at 545 pm Thursday night. Last night I checked Facebook and was met with my worst fear. He had passed on Tuesday. His mom posted that there were no details at that time, but he had indeed passed while.om base on the 20th. I was blown away, and not in a good way. I texted a mutual friend that we have and found out a little more. They think he died on the fifteenth, but they didn't find his body till the twentieth when his roommate returned from leave. They have no idea how he died yet. Although it appears to be from natural causes. They are doing a toxicology report just to see. I have no idea really what to say. I was going to reach out to his family, and tell them how sorry I am for their loss and to express how much he meant to me and my other half but I can't find the right words right now. He was just thirty five, far too young to die. We know he suffered from depression, but the army told his parents it didn't look self inflicted. All I can say is rest in peace Nathan. You will be missed.

That is so sad I am so sorry I hope it was natural causes. It’s okay you can’t think yet what to say to his family. The pain would be horrible for them and they will get tons of sympathy messages now but soon it will quite down and they will feel like the only ones left morning while the rest of the world goes on. So you messaging them in a few weeks or a month or whenever to tell them how much their son meant to you will be wonderful for them to hear.

He did seem a little weird the week before but I stocked it up to his medicine or maybe he broke down and got a drink. He hadn't been drinking in three years. Some questions just won't ever get answered. Thank you for your kind words.

It was a very huge shock. I am both looking forward to what happened to him and dreading it.

It's been hard to grasp that he isn't here anymore. Even harder that it went so long without them finding him

@thislittlepennyearns That's somewhat suspicious, especially since they're so young and supposedly in good health.

That is awful 35 is far too young to die. I used to know someone online who's stepdaughter a young woman and mother also in the military passed away on a beach in NC due to natural causes. It was very unexpected.
