Killing is My Business...and Business is Good!

Okay, I have to preface this discussion by letting you know that I don't or haven't killed anybody (nor plan to). It's the title of one of my favorite Megadeth albums, but kind of fits with the subject of my discussion. Please read on! Paintball is a sport I love to play, and in my younger days I played on a semi-pro team in south Florida. I still play fairly regularly, and last weekend I was invited by my old team to play in a weekend-long tournament. I was a little apprehensive about it due to the fact that I would be playing against many "young guns" who are much faster and more athletic than I am. However, I couldn't resist the opportunity, so I went for it. Not only did I have a blast, but our team won the tournament! And apparently, where I lacked in physical agility I made up with brains and strategy, as I was only "killed" in two of our ten games, and in both of those situations I was the last man standing on our team. Our overall record was 8 wins 2 losses, good enough to win the overall event! Overall, I had 57 recorded "kills" during the tournament! Anyway, my son is now really getting into paintball, and so he and I and a bunch of our friends went out yesterday to have some fun and play a little recreational paintball. The photo is our "team" after playing for about an hour. We had so much fun, and ended up playing for about five total hours (with breaks in between each game of course). I scored a real deal two weekends ago, as the guy that owns the paintball store where I buy all my gear decided to retire and close down his store. I was able to buy a $1000 paintball gun for only $400. I am so excited to have such a nice gun that I plan on playing as much as I can! Have you ever played paintball before? If not, you should give it a try, it's so much fun! You get to shoot people and not go to jail for it! LOL But be forewarned, it does hurt when you get shot with a paintball! And you don't need to have all your own gear...if you have a paintball field anywhere near you, they will supply all the gear you need to play!

My husband would probably enjoy doing this sport. Not sure there are any places locally where he could go though.

@moffittjc I keep reminding him that if he can go off and go wheeling with my brother, I can run off for the weekend too. My sister only lives 3 hours away. I think that is why he has yet to do the repairs to my vehicle. He knows I mean what I say.

It's a great way to have a lot of fun, get some exercise, and burn a lot of calories! It's also a great way to get out any frustration or aggression you have built up inside you! When I'm stressed, I love to play paintball because I can let out all my frustrations and worries on the battlefield, and totally feel better and relaxed afterward! ...and worn out and tired! lol

@m_audrey6788 There are different strategies to playing paintball. For most, there is a lot of running and use of fast reflexes. Those are the players that play offensively, and attack aggressively. But players can also take a defensive stand, and lay back and hide behind bunkers toward the back of the battlefields and wait and pick off any opposing players who make it through the front lines of the battlefield. It's always good to have a mix of offensive and defensive players!

I think paintball would be fun..my son has played and says it kind of hurts when you get hit with the paintball. I wonder if there are any people my age who actually play?

It definitely does hurt when you get hit with a paintball! It hurts even worse when you get hit by lots of paintballs all at once! lol People of all ages play paintball. I've seen young kids, teens, adults and even seniors out there playing. Believe it or not, lots of families will come out and play together.

I have always wanted to know if it hurts when paintballs are used. lol After all, there must be some force. How do you say a person is killed if the pain is not sufficient...kinda.

It hurts really bad when you get hit by paintballs, as they are shot with quite a bit of force. I still have welts and bruises on my body from the tournament I played in last weekend.

I had a feeling it was paintball before I started reading. I've never done it, but it does look like fun. I'm glad you won the tournament against all those young kids.

@just4him I just got back into playing again last year, now that my son is old enough to enjoy it as well. I probably play at least once a month, sometimes more when a tournament or scenario comes around. A scenario is usually a big event where the game can last 12 hours, 24 hours, or 36 hours. Those are usually pretty intense!

Sounds similar to what we do here during the Holi festival which is approaching soon (March 1-2). But only you do it with a mission. Team A v/s Team B. Right? It really is fun to have "targets" to shoot at without serious consequences. We don't do it as competition here. It's a festival so just for fun. We also use coloured water, coloured water balloon grenades and coloured powder. Oh not to forget the "bhaang" or "thandai" the drink.

@Daljinder Wait...is your last sentence correct? "...celebrating a victory of evil over good..." You have a festival that celebrates evil?

@moffittjc Holi aka the festival of colours marks end of Winter and arrival of Spring season. It is a two day festival and the dates change every year. This year it falls on March 1 (Holika Dahan meaning the burning of Holika) and March 2 (the main festival). The night of March 1 (Holika Dahan) a bonfire is held commemorating the burning of Holika ( a she-demon ). She was called upon by her brother demon King Hiranyakashyap ( lol try saying that haha!) to kill his son Prahlad. Prahlad was a small child who was an ardent believer of Lord Vishnu. So, this demon king was jealous and resented that his son worshipped someone else and not him. He wanted him gone and had tried many times and failing each time. But his sister was blessed with a "boon" where if she draped over a "blessed" sheet and walked through fire, it won't be able to hurt her. Brother-sister duo made plans and had Holika sit with Prahlad in her lap in a bonfire. As it happened, a strong wind blew and the sheet that Holika was covering herself with fell on Prahlad saving his life while Holika herself burnt to ash. So that is the first day! Next day is celebrating victory of good over evil and mending fences with friends, relatives, colleagues, etc through this festival.

I'll be playing in another tournament next weekend in Daytona Beach. One of the guys on our team knows a lady who owns a vacation rental property on the beach, and she has said that we can all stay there for free during the weekend tournament. So it will be a kind of business/pleasure trip all mixed together!

@paigea Normally, I really want to do well in the paintball tournaments and make it to the championship rounds on Sunday. However, in this particular case, I won't care if we get eliminated right away on Friday night, because it will mean we can hang out at the house on the beach the rest of the weekend! lol
