When you have time, you do not seem to have money, when you have money, you do not seem to have time. Hubby lost his job, but we have some money set aside. He went and saw a dentist and got started on getting his teeth taken care of. I am switching to a new dentist as well. I have money on a benefits card, so that is good. My image is free from online. There is little provision for the elderly to get help with their teeth, and it can really affect their health. A painful mouth or bad teeth can cause poor nutrition. Let's get this done.

This is quite topical for me at the moment as I had a tooth extracted last week. Although I have always taken care of my teeth and visited the dentist regularly I've had a lot of trouble and spent a lot of money getting them fixed. I couldn't bear to have bad teeth though.

@mydanods I'm ok now, the pain has gone and it's healed nicely. I think my other teeth are good for now.

@GardenGerty Heather, what happened that it is gone forever if you want to talk about it? I am so sorry. What is he going to do now?

My parents never had dental insurance, but they had money set aside for emergencies . . . so when my smoker dad's teeth got really bad, they had the funds to take care of it (oh, but for him it was a long process that cost a pretty penny!). Yes, bad teeth and gums can also cause other health issues.

My dad was in his early thirties and mom in her forties when they each ended up with dentures. My teeth have mostly been healthy, except for some inherited problems.

@GardenGerty Wow, that sounds so early to get dentures! Yah, the inherited stuff we can't really do much about, but at least we learned to take care of our teeth better than our parents did.

Yeah teeth is very important same with the eyes and ears which most of the time we took for granted. I have a blurry vision and it really affects my efficiency at work.

Getting a check-up every 6 months/1year even if you don't suffer from dental problems is recommended

Sometimes, if I have the time I do not have the money, if I have the money I do not have the time. Now it is better and I can make sure of both.

Today I like to buy necessary device to take care of my teeth as they are far less expensive than going to see a dentist. Actually lately I just bought a new waterpik as the old one does not work properly.

Even if I had a waterpik I would still go to a dentist, but I understand it is an excellent investment.

@GardenGerty Of course, we still need to have a check in the dental hospital. The waterpik is something cool for us to take care of our teeth in usual.

I have always had to take good care of my teeth and visit a dentist regularly moreso then the average person, because of a medication that I've been on twice daily since I was 16 years old. I don't know if there are any provisions here for our seniors for dental work, our government seems to feel it necessary to provide extra funding for those 21 and under-its a smaller population.

Some who get medical assistance and are under 21 get help here, but that is it.

Here the full checkup would be included with one of the cleanings.

@GardenGerty Not here, the dentist who clean your teeth is different from the one who does the check up. I have my teeth cleaned on February and September and the annual check-up (with panoramic x-ray if needed) in November.

You are right! We go for checkups and cleanings twice a year. We are lucky to have dental insurance that covers most of the basics.

Yes, I have had good dental insurance in the past and I have a health care pretax account now that will be useful.

Certainly having bad teeth must have a very detrimental effect on your health. I'm glad you're able to go ahead with getting yours cared for.
