Alfie is my new spy machine!

After all the trouble with carers for my Dad, I persuaded him to have some kind of CCTV. This was also meant to help Mum check on him when she went out. My Dad, for those who do not know is almost totally paralysed, but he can use one arm, drive a wheelchair and has his five senses. Getting good carers has been a non-stop problem. Then my sister told me she watches her dog from an App called Alfie on Google Play. You just need to have a spare smart phone to download the app and set up the camera on one and to put the app on your own smartphone. You log in using your gmail login. It even lets you add other people who can watch from the app on their own smartphone. You just point the viewer (The smartphone camera,) at what you want to watch and if you want it, enable the sound. Now I can see right into my Dad' s room from 70 miles away and check how he is doing. I can even speak to him if I need to. The carers were probably not happy, but the standard of care is better as a result and of course, I can just look in any time and see how Dad is doing. It is really quite amazing and I am also setting up a phone here so I can find out what the cat does when I am out. I would not put this up without the permission of the person I am watching, but this does make a whole difference and my parents feel safer as a result. If there was an accident, I could ring for an ambulance for example, even though I was so far away or alert a neighbor. Of course, there is the potential to use this and turn into a female James Bond, but I prefer to watch the cat.

I think this is a wonderful idea. Of course, it is open to abuse but in your situation it sounds quite ideal.

This has really saved us a lot of difficulty because we were really worried after there was a safety issue with the previous carers. It really is very reassuring however to be able to look in on my parents and see how they are in real time.

Awww, I want it so that I can watch my cats. I wouldn't tell them though!

This watching could be addictive. The watcher has to watch it.

We've recently installed an outside CCTV system for my mother in law and she said she feels safer, she doesn't need monitoring inside her house as she's not particularly frail but I do think it's a brilliant idea for families like you and your dad as sometimes you just *do* have to keep an eye on things
