Kobe's First Encounter with a Brittany Spaniel

Each day when I walk Kobe, my goal is to avoid seeing other dogs. Today, I wasn't so lucky! We headed up North Tawas Lake Road, which is actually Kobe's favorite route to follow. I tried to go a different direction, but he balked and started giving me a hard time. It was apparent that Kobe had already made up his mind, which way he wanted to go. We had a nice walk and he made a few jaunts out into the weeds, beside the road. The air was pretty cold, but I was dress accordingly. After reaching Tawas Lake, we turned around, then headed back towards home. In the distance I saw an older lady walking a Brittany Spaniel, on the opposite side of the road. I took a deep breath and shortened Kobe's lead, so he had the least amount of control. Once he spotted that dog, Kobe started raring up like a wild horse! I spoke firmly and tightened my grip around his collar. The more I demanded his attention, the less resistance Kobe gave. Soon the lady and her dog were past us, with no bad encounter from Kobe. There's one more hurdle we just made it over! I was so happy to get back home:) Photo:borrowed from Pixabay

Success!!! I have to do the leash tightening and speaking firmly to Molly if she spots a squirrel or a stray cat. So glad it worked for you and Kobe.

Kobe is learning that he doesn't always have to react, with aggression. Today was a pretty good lesson, for both of us:) I had to become the bully! LOL

Yes, he has learned a few short commands, like 'sit.' I think he had bad experiences with dogs, before I got him. This makes him overly defensive.

it takes a good dog owner to handle a strong dog when they see something they want I have 7 & when I take them for a walk I had BETTER be on my toes, cause it don't take but a sec for one to get crazy to make the other ones go crazy too & they are a hand full.

Kobe is about 85 pounds, so keeping him under control takes a lot of work. Today, he learned that messing with 'Mom' isn't a good idea. I showed Kobe, that he wasn't the one in control.

@lovinangelsinstead21 Once a dog finds out we won't permit it, they finally give up the fight.

I'm glad it went well. I always had a time when I walked my dogs when they met other dogs. However, they were usually friendly.

Dogs pull with a lot of strength (Of course it also depends on their size). I do not know how strong your Kobe is.

The older lady just kept walking, which helped matters a lot. She was calm and wasn't upset by Kobe's aggressive behavior. It taught Kobe a good lesson:)
