What is the proper way to curtsy? I was taught in school in the second grade how to curtsy, but I think it was different than the British curtsy. I'm not even sure why we were taught to curtsy. Do you know what the difference between the American curtsy and the British curtsy is? Why were we taught to curtsy anyway?

Not being a subject of a monarch I don't have to curtsy for anybody.

@OreoBrownie No, I'm a woman. Tell me for whom I would have to curtsy? I live in a republic, no one is superior to me here.

I did not know there was such a thing as an American curtsy! It is not compulsory for members of the public to curtsy to the Queen however most women would do. Men just bow their heads. There is a Royal protocol which is strictly adhered to amongst the Royals. Who curtsies or Nods and to whom is set down in stone so to speak! However it does not have to be as pronounced as it used to be just a bob would do rather than a full blown curtsy!

That's g1ood to know about it vot being compulsory to curtsy at the =atlas. I was just comparing the curtsy done in America back in the 5o's back when we were young. We were taught to curtsy to our elders out of respect. Outside of class I never did it?

I know the British are required to curtsy (or bow) the Royal family. In our country women do not curtsy.
