What were they thinking?

There have been severe weather warnings for various parts of the country all this week, and this has caused a variety of reactions. Some people have been taking the Mickey, posting online photos of themselves dressed like Russians in preparation for the onslaught. Some have been emptying the supermarket shelves, stocking up on bread and other essentials. And some have taken absolutely no notice and then got into a mess. In one part of the country a lot of people were stuck in their vehicles overnight, and when interviewed the next day one relieved driver reported ‘I had nothing with me, I had to drink the water meant for the windscreen washers. I was afraid I would freeze to death!’ Come on, there was plenty of warning! Why did this person not set out with blankets, water to drink, plenty of snacks and a shovel at least? I’m all for ‘keeping calm and carrying on’ but right now people seem to be doing anything but. ‘Hope for the best but prepare for the worst’ would be a more appropriate response. I wonder if that person was one of the same ones who joked about the warnings beforehand? All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2018.

People are stupid @Fleura . "Oh it won't happen to me." Just like those idiots on the East Coast were told to get the hell out of dodge because of flood warnings.

You're right - and then other people have to take risks to rescue them.

@Fleura If I were the rescue teams, I'd be going through the neighborhoods with a bull horn stating, "You have 24 hours to leave. If you don't, we ain't coming back." And it's not like the media, news, weather apps didn't warn them.

We had a weather warning, as we did not need to take the road, we stayed at home. People should be more careful and prepared in case of bad weather.

I wouldn't be so sure, some people just blame everyone else - the police or emergency services for being too slow to rescue them, the council for not gritting the road enough etc., they don't think to take any responsibility for themselves.

@Fleura I'm afraid that you're right and I was too optimistic with my comment. :-(

@Fleura So true, those people are always the first to blame everyone else.

Some people think 'it' is never going to happen to them. It's hard to feel much sympathy for them.

If I was an emergency worker I'd find it hard not to just leave them there and say 'I told you so!'

@Fleura Such a situation is so easily averted. They just need a little bit of commonsense.
