Panic buying .....47 loaves and 73 pints of milk !!!

United Kingdom

So, England is at a virtual stand still. Schools are closed .... People with 4x4's are being asked to help to get Doctors and Nurses to hospitals People are wearing 15 layers of clothing ...And why is this happening ? .....WE HAVE SNOW !!!! The amount that people have got does vary throughout the country but I can only speak for my area.... Whilst I am grateful for the fact that I had a snow day yesterday off work and we didn't have to go out today at all ....I do think people are going into panic mode way too quickly ! People are posting photos of supermarket shelves empty due to people panic buying .... It is usually things like bread, milk, bottled water....they go first ... Whilst I can understand that people won't want top go out or won't be able to get out as easily I am sure that half of this food is just thrown away as it will have gone off before they get a chance to eat it ! Some parts of the country have got it bad ...yes ....but here we have 6 inches at the most .... So I would say ... Don't Panic !!!

One wonders how people in Alaska or Siberia survive when one reads about panic attacks in England.

But they're used to it. We haven't had what I would call proper snow for many years. And in my part of England we still haven't had proper snow this year. When we do get it, it only lasts a matter of days, so we don't have time to get used to it!

We have that "panic buying" too sometimes here in Canada.

Panic buying is always bad. I´m sure that it could be made better with the help of authorities.

i think showing empty shelves would make people panic even more. sometimes it's better make do for a while, than stockpiling then not using them. it's like throwing away money after all the time and effort (and rollercoaster of emotions) expended to do all that.

There was this panic attack in the south of France, here in Switzerland it snowed 3 days, a little more than 7 inches, nobody is scared.

I think that is how it happens the world over. The water will keep. The others, not so much.

We had a storm the other day, it was forecasting up to 8 inches of snow, but we only got 4. I didn't even bother to buy anything extra. Snow here is another day. I just figured I'd be here rather than going out. lol It almost makes me wish a lot more snow on England to see what they'd do with real amounts.

@traceyjayne I blame the BBC and newspapers who send people into panic with their apocalyptic headlines. Somebody’s bound to be making money out of it.

We had snow, but not as much as you. None of the local schools needed to close and my college didn't close, despite our students coming from up to thirty miles away. I know some buses broke down, but overall the transport was pretty good. And because people stayed at home in panic mode, the buses were running on time and no standing needed!

Some people really go off the deep end. Even here, simply having a long weekend will see people stocking up as if there is no tomorrow. It's crazy.

I heard that they panic shopping in England. I think they don't make a rational decision when they buy those things.
