A Rescue of Two Ice Fishermen on Lake Huron

Again, I heard about a couple of ice fishermen, being rescued off the icy waters of Lake Huron! There's open water in many places, I can't believe that anyone would be daring enough, to walk out onto that ice There have been warnings posted all over the place, to stay off this lake. Yet, some people don't pay any attention to this, until they get in big trouble:( Thank God, these two men didn't perish, because of this treacherous mistake Photo: mine

You call that daring. One could also use the terms 'stupid' and 'irresponsible', couldn't one? After all, they're endangering the lives of their rescuers, too.

You are right, Mary Lou:) And now, they are fining these people big time, for disobeying this rule and endangering so many lives!

@kobesbuddy Well done! It's the same with irresponsible mountain climbers. They should be fined big time, too. You're the only one calling me Mary Lou. I like it!

Thanks, we are glad they were safe, also. One man south of us drowned in his car this winter!

Oh those ice-fishermen are a stubborn bunch that always think that they have more time. And Lake Huron is such a deep and cold lake.

It's kind of like my feelings on people who stay behind in their homes during a large storm, even after mandatory evacuation warnings are given. If they are warned of the danger repeatedly, then they are not rescued until it's safe to do so. I was next to lake Erie at the beginning of the week. It looks pretty frozen solid yet. The wind coming off it was very cold.

Lake Huron has lots of open water and the ice is already breaking up.

@kobesbuddy Well, Erie is a lot smaller, so I'm sure the other lakes are thawing out. :)

Most people in Erie confine their fishing to icy bays..the lake itself is not really great to fish on..too variable..and especially with this inconsistent winter it wouldn't be smart.

This is not uncommon. I've read about ice fisherman in NJ who have fallen through thin ice. Some people think signs are for someone else to obey. At least their mistake was forgiven this time.

@Shiva49 South of us, yes there was flooding by the rivers, in Michigan. Homes were lost and one man drowned in his car, when it was swept away into deep water. We had our yard flood last spring, but the water soaked into the ground, soon after the rain stopped.

We have had that happen on Lake Erie too, I don't know if I call them daring or more stupid. I think that they should have to pay for the time and resources spent on them when they do things like this. I am happy they are safe along with the rescuers.

Maybe they didn't know any better, however, when you live on the lakes it is common knowledge. The only place where it used to be safe to fish in my hometown was on the bay. The lake itself is too treacherous to fish on the ice isn't consistent.
