My friends don´t know yet whether they can come to my house or not. Humberto is very tired and has a lot to do and I only spoke with Dixie that will try to have him rest. Anyway, and just in case, I made the awesome "papas a la huanaína" my mother in law´s recipe. Peruvian food is very different depending on whether the recipe is before or after the big immigration of people from the other side of the planet. People from there (specially Chinese) brought with them their spices and a lot of what is now called Peruvian food is now a mixture of the old and the new. My MIL (as my grandmother from my mother´s side) came from Perú but before the arrival of curry and other spices with the arrival of people from India and China. The hot spices were peppers that came from America. I learned from her to make several dishes that my friends and family love. Every time I cook them, I remember her. Thanks, dear aunt Elsa! Do you know family dishes that come from a long time ago?

Yes, I know family dishes that come from my great grandmother. In the north of Italy food is changing. When I was a kid we did not even know what pizza was, it was a southern dish, spaghetti were also not very popular. The change started in the beginning of the 60's, when southern came to the north in search of work.

@marguicha Saffron Risotto, ossobuchi, polenta, ravioli, tortellini, gnocchi, lasagne, tagliatelle, meat stews, roasted veal, roasted chicken. We have a larger variety than south.

@LadyDuck I can see. Many of those dishes are now part of our everyday meals from the Italian immigration. Gnocchi is a great favorite of mine as I don´t know how to make them and can only eat them in restaurants.

That is super interesting! We don't have any family recipes like that. My mom doesn't like cooking and my grandma is kind of a boring cook haha

Many heritage dishes were lost in the US with women working out. My eldest daughter knows how to cook, but hates to do it. If she wants a fance dish with expensive ingredients, she buys them and brings them to me with an engaging smile.

I only have one recipe that I know by heart that was passed down by my grandma. It's salmon patties and its so so so so good.

What do you use as the binder in your salmon patties? My mom's recipe used soft breadcrumbs, but I liked it best when she made it with crushed saltines. I have to use oatmeal or gluten free breadcrumbs or cooked rice because my daughter is wheat sensitive, but I miss those saltine ones.
