Dollar Store Disappointment

United States
March 5, 2018 9:14am CST
I went to the Dollar Store early this morning and was highly disappointed. Half of the aisles I needed to go down were blocked with workers either stocking or rearranging. One guy in particular didn't even want to move his cart so that I could get something where he was working. The other disappointment was that the size of the bags of chips, etc has shrunk. What used to be worth paying a dollar for is now half the size. The selection has also shrunk. The part of the store designated to food is now down to an aisle and a half. As disappointed as I was I did get the cards I need for two birthdays and Easter. At least that part of the store was still the same and since it was early no one was looking at the cards. I hate when I'm looking for a card and someone comes and stands right on top of me to look at the same cards. Anyway, now I'm home and ready to get this Monday started. The sun is shining, my coffee is hot and I'm ready to chat.

Actually, I think that a lot of products got into the Dollar Stores by shrinking their packages, so it appears to be cheaper.

@Daelii you are very right. The sizes are no longer fitting my needs for most things now

There is some truth to smaller sizes because the cost is much less to purchase.

I think you are right! I dont mind buying a few splurge things there but its normally not worth the price for everyday use. Like frosting. Its normally 1.39 for a tub that covers a normal cake at the grocery store. Dollar tree has same type but half the size. So you actually pay more if you want the same amount!

Ooh I have not been there lately. If you are talking about the Dollar Tree. Sad that we keep getting less and less for our money. I have encountered many rude employees at dollar tree as well. Ugh. Hope the rest of your Monday goes better!!!

I have no issue with the employees in my store but today was rather unusual.

That does sound disappointing. I know better then to go into our dollar stores in the mornings because that seems to be when they stock the shelves, and they don't like to move their carts for anyone. But, you're home now, and the sun is shining and your coffee is on, so the day has improved greatly and I hope that it continues.

It is a shame that many stores are changing. They do not increase the prices, but the size of the bags of the products shrinks. I also hate when people come on top of me to look at the same things I am looking.

@Marilynda1225 It happens all the time. I think there are people who take pleasure in doing this.

It never fails that someone has to stand on top of me when I'm looking at something.

Good help is hard to find in those type stores. You would think the worker would have enough common sense to ask to help you. Those aisles are a very tight space and can be difficult if other people are there. I have also noticed the size shrinkage in products not only in the Dollar store but regular supermarkets as well.

I just thought it was bad timing to have aisles totally blocked during busy hours.

@Marilynda1225 I've worked in retail stores and moved out inventory when it arrives. Your required to put it on the shelves as soon as possible. But I was always aware of not getting in the customer's way!

I love the end of the story. "I hate this. Let's kill everyone" and then "well but it is fine because it is a beautiful day"

I only buy gift bags and cocktail plates and napkins in the Dollar Store. I used to buy toys for my students as little rewards. I don't like woman who stand near me while I'm looking through racks of clothes and start looking as I'm moving towards that area.

And as well as shrinkage of packets, jars and packets are sometimes only half full. That really annoys me too.

I noticed the size too. I know what you mean about people getting into your space when you shop. I was buying the solar power kit last week and these 2 men ran over and stood in my way " to see what we loaded in the cart." Then walked off after I said " I wanted to look more but those 2 A- holes pushed me away. They left and I want back and bought a wireless security thing I have been wanting. Those men were just plain rude.

I hate that too. No matter what I'm looking at someone has to come and stand in my space. There are times when I've walked away and not gotten anything
