FINALLY Got My Surgery Scheduled

United States
March 7, 2018 2:03am CST
Yesterday I finally heard back from my gyn-oncologist's office, after calling for the umpteenth time and leaving a voicemail message saying how unprofessional it was for no one to return my calls, and that if I didn't hear from them after leaving this message, I would assume that I needed to find another specialist to treat me. The receptionist called me back that same day and apologized that no one had returned my calls in "her absence," claiming that she and the doctor had both been out with the flu. Okay, that's possible...but for three months?? Whatever. Anyway, my surgery is scheduled for April 6th, so less than a month away now. I have to be at the hospital at 6:30 that morning, so hopefully I'll be able to find a ride that early, as they are 2.5 - 3 hours away, depending on traffic. My pre-op appointment is March 29th. I'm just relieved to FINALLY be getting this taken care of. I guess after Easter is technically "after Thanksgiving." Anyway so in less than a month I will be undergoing abdominal surgery to remove my damaged fallopian tubes and all the adhesions from severe endometriosis. Hopefully everything goes well and I don't wake up afterwards with damage to my bowel or with a colostomy bag.

YAY!! I have been missing in action so to speak but was wondering how you were doing and if anything had been done. Well I just had a TAH last Friday so this is the 8th day of healing. Not doing to bad but it was rough with how it started and ended. I'm just so happy that they finally are coming thru for you.

@Srbageldog Do you see a doctor Monday about the ankle and how long they think it will be? I'm so hoping not that long. Thank you, I'm glad it is done and over with, was scary knowing I was going into shock but I guess for me it was the best results as they were forced to do it as an emergency TAH and I couldn't say no or back out. LOL! Now to get you on the mend so you can get better too.

As you've seen by now, my surgery has been postponed. Hopefully by Monday I'll have a better idea of the time frame I'm looking at for being on crutches, so then we can reschedule it. They agreed it would be too hard to get around on crutches after the surgery and it'd be better to wait until I'm all healed. I am glad you finally got your surgery but am sorry it had to be done under emergency circumstances. I hope your health improves now that you've gotten that taken care of.

@Ithink The orthopedist estimated about 6 weeks in a cast, then possibly a couple weeks of physical therapy once the cast comes off. So I'm guessing I won't be able to have the surgery until sometime this summer....I won't have it past mid July, as my brother is getting married in August and I want to be able to attend. They'll have to wait until after the wedding if it's going to be pushed back further than that. That must have been scary going into shock. I'm always afraid I'll need emergency surgery and no one at our hospital is qualified to perform it. Although maybe they would call in someone from another hospital in that situation?

Haha, I was thinking that too! I had a catheter after my diagnostic laparoscopy, but they took it out before I got sent home. The paperwork I was given for this surgery said that it's possible to be sent home with a catheter, or colostomy bag even. I'm like great, just my luck that will happen to me!

That is good that you finally got an appointment and surgery scheduled. How terrible you had to wait three months for them to set this up. I have been through the same thing where offices do not answer the phone or return calls and it is extremely frustrating! A damaged bowel and a colostomy bag is one of the risk of this surgery you are having?

I've actually been waiting since October to get the surgery arranged! Yes, unfortunately there is the risk that my bowel could become perforated, since they will be removing my fallopian tubes and they are glued to my bowel. Hopefully that won't happen! I think it's just a risk with all abdominal surgeries, though.

Thanks! Yeah, hopefully I won't have any issues. It's a risk because everything's glued to my bowel.

OMG! you think of the worst possible thing that could go bad. I had it done and well, a million of other women, you`ll be fine. Stop worrying, although it hard not to.

The paperwork they sent home with me after I signed my consent back in October scared me lol. It said "Many people think that these things will not happen to them during surgery, but IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU." In big letters...I was like, geez, thanks!
