Our third oldest granddaughter is now a senior in high school and will be graduating in three months. Recently, my husband and I took her out to breakfast. Here's a brief part of our conversation: Granddaughter: Pretty soon I'm going to have to start "adulting." Ugh! Us: It's not so bad to be an adult. Granddaughter: But I'll have to do it another 30 years. Me: (Doing math in my head). But that would make you only 47. You'll be an adult longer than that! Granddaughter: Until I'm 57? Us: Longer than that! Granddaughter: Until I'm 67? Us: Longer than that! Granddaughter: But I didn't think I would have act like an adult after I retire! My husband and I burst out laughing. Now that we are retired, our granddaughter doesn't think we have to act like adults anymore! Whew! Guess I can relax and goof off now! LOL

That's almost as good as thinking that once you are an adult you can do as you please! I'm sure she will get used to her new role as an adult and realize that we all have to grow up sometime, but we don't have to be serious all the time. My husband and I still tease each other and flirt the way we did when we were twenty.

@bagarad - Yes, someday she will realize why we thought that what she said was so funny! Adults do not have to be serious all the time in order to be adults. LOL

Great conversation! I don't know if I ever truly acted like an adult. Maybe when I disciplined my kids. When I think of an adult, I think of my mother. I don't think she was ever young. I remember telling myself I would never become like that, if it meant I had to always act prim and proper and couldn't hang my legs over the sides of chairs.

It is really sad that the younger generation does not get it.

@Hannihar - Young people may not get it, yet, but they will. They will. We all do, sooner or later.

Kids get some really funny ideas sometimes don't they? But it's a great bonus that you now have permission to stop being 'adult'.

It does make us laugh, kids always think of things from their slant. But then again,She is right, youth is not a time of life,it is a state of mind.
