Should Animals be Used for Testing?

Since 500 BC, scientists are experimenting their treatments on animals. Its proponents say that these experiments have enabled them to discover many life-saving treatments. But I believe that animals are not meant only for experimenting. Just like human beings, they also have the right to live. No one should snatch this right from them. They are as valuable as human beings. What I feel is that it is inhumane and cruel. Scientists should find other ways for completing their experiments. Do you think the same?

Of course not. But they can use coax cells having 3d structures. These structures look like human organs and can be used for experimenting.

@deba12 then maybe you should edit this discussion and add that detail and explain some more to have a more meaningful discussion. i've never heard or read about "coax cells and 3d structures" before

@hereandthere You should read about it. It's really interesting.

I believe testing on mice or rats for medical reason is okay. I am a psychology and biology major so we talk about ethics of experiments a lot. The rights of lab animals have improved a whole lot. Scientist can't just go into a lab randomly and be like I'm gonna inject this into this rat to see what happens just because. They have to go throw several nonexperiment steps before they ever get to test the product. They have to convince their IRB and others that the experiment has actual value to it and they will learn something new from it or that the new medication they are testing will be different from the ones already on the market. They also have to give the rats/mice the best lives possible while in testing. They get regulated cages, water, and they can't make them suffer for no reason at all or longer than necessary. I don't believe in testing on animals for cosmetic reasons at all. There are tons of companies out there that have found ways to test their makeup, shampoos, lotions, etc in ways that don't involve animals. If they can do it and still be successful in selling their products then all the rest of them can too. These products aren't products that we need to live or survive but medicine are things that we need.

I could never be a neuroscientist for several reasons, one of them being that I'd feel so guilty when conducting experiments on defenseless animals.

I totally agree with your statement all animals too have right to live just like us, humans, and if we see the cruelness in which these animals are treated in labs we would not even use these cosmetic products and other scientific inventions that we use in our daily lives .....scientists could use stemcell grown human parts to discover and make inventions and testing

Yes. I think the same. They have to find other solutions. Animals don't deserve that.

It is cruel so if it can be avoided yes it should be avoided.

Hello. Animals are supposed to be taken cared of, not for experiment. Humans just know too much.
