Do You Speak Up When You See Something Wrong Happening?

Please be frank because not speaking up for anything wrong is really not wrong but its really Very Wrong. I just can't walk away from something that is not right and really need speak up for it, no matter who stands by me. Most of the times we just don't fall into matters to avoid troubles, or at times we are avoided by closed ones(wife/husband). We are often addressed as nobody is doing anything why are you so keen to fall in that matter and invite trouble. I don't mean to offend them any but, what if we were in any troubled situation and see people walk away. Image Credit:- Pixabay.

I was worried about 2 young children because their mother was drinking and used to leave them on their own. I did speak up about it and although I felt guilty because they were eventually taken away, at least they are safe now. She was given many chances but still left them on their own. The older of the two was about 10 and used to come round to me in his pyjamas with his little sister because they were frightened.

@nitirrbb7 It made me feel bad but I thought something might happen to them if I didn't speak up. They are both doing really well now in their foster home.

That's really sad it shouldn't have happened with those innocent kids I respect you for taking a step forward in trying to bringing sense into the lady. But bringing sense into addicted people is absolutely senseless. Hope the kids make a good future away from their mother.

Think before you speak. Iv'e been taught that. Knowing the legal matters in this country, I see a lot of people doing wrong and I really can't stand that. But before I react, I think. It's not easy, but I have to control it because I used to speak up a lot.

@Strawberry18 I think we have the freedom of speech. Not too many are that courageous though. But the reason why we are constrained from saying things upfront is due to how we were raised in a very religious country, mostly dominated by the Catholics.

@Strawberry18 that's not the reason not to speak at all. I graduated from a university known to have the most liberal students that always speak their minds in demonstrations. We were taught never to be afraid to speak our mind. The only thing that can stop me from doing so is when I don't think first. Most people who don't think first get too emotional and what they say mostly are affected by such emotions thus leading to a futile effort to be heard.

Oh hell yeah! Online I don't ignore the wrong. Offline my family don't tolerate any wrong either. So, it is not only taught to me growing up but my faith as I am a Sikh does not stand for injustice at all. Many people avoid domestic violence in neighbourhood but not my father. He will knock on the door for warning and stop it by being a mediator.

It depends on the situation; when I find it is right to speak up, I speak, but when I perceive it can bring me into trouble, I just keep silent.

You could be doing wrong by not speaking because anything that hurts someone else can bring you into trouble.

I would speak up! If it were a situation where someone one was in harm I would report it to the authorities immediately. The only time I would back away is if my safety or the safety of someone else were at risk. Still would report it to the authorities to take care of it.

I have a sign that reads "Silence Implies Consent." Of course one must carefully consider each response, but overall I tend to try to help people in need. Sometimes it could be a trap, though.

You really got a point, its better to be careful while responding. We go to solve problems and self land into one.

I don't speak up every time I see something wrong taking place. It depends on the degree of wrongness. Example: I don't speak up every time I see someone throw a piece of paper on the street.

Yes, if/when I see something that I feel is just not right, I must step in and try to fix things. I will admit, with my Indian friends, some things that look wrong to me, after they explain what is really happening, brings embarrassment to me. *sigh* (It can be really difficult to understand a culture you aren't born and raised in. I have made many mistakes when dealing with my Indian friends. Thankfully, they are willing to explain and forgive my ignorance.) I can take comfort in knowing that situations here in my world can baffle my Indian friends as much as situations in their world baffle me. (grinning at you)
