How many of you remember Tony Orlando and Dawn? Well, in 1973 the biggest song of the year was “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree”. I remember hearing this song constantly on the radio but now I have not heard it in ages. In 2008 Billboard ranked this song the 37th biggest song of all time. The song of the year was last year’s biggest song of the year “The First Time I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack and it won Record of the Year. Finally, the best song of this year was “Higher Ground” performed by Stevie Wonder. It was a funk song written by the artist and appeared on his album Innervisions. It rose to number one on the U.S. R&B singles chart. Since I am not the biggest fan of Tony Orlando and Dawn what do you think of their song?

It was a good song. It gave hope to girlfriends and spouses that their loved ones would be coming home from the war.

"Tie a Yellow Ribbon" and "Seasons in the Sun" used to blare out of the jukebox at the other end of the bay on the edge of which we lived when I was a child. When we organised our own music at loud volume, the bay was treated to "Smoke on the Water" and "I Surrender"

Tie a Yellow Ribbon is something that is familiar to me because it was the song of our country's hero and his wife who became the first woman president.
