Vince is going to Nepal again

Some of you might remember that my husband, Vince, visited Nepal a few years ago. He has been involved in raising money with a group to provide wells in remote areas of the country. These provide clean drinking water for the people which in turn reduces the number of cases of dysentery and other diseases. He also took over a suitcase full of children’s clothing which was distributed in one of the villages. Now he is going again in October with other members of the group. To help raise money we are going to raffle some items at the concert we’re holding on Saturday. I’ll write more about that later. While in Nepal Vince had the opportunity to get quite near to the summit of Mt Everest. This was without oxygen too! But of course the plane in which he took the joyride was pressurised.

He helps with the fund-raising when he can, mostly by selling collectable coins.

@cintol Getting to some of the places involve very rough bus trips and such travelling really affects my back. That's the main reason.

Maybe in years to come you'll be able to. There are lots of deserving causes.

Nepal is a beautiful country but the people there are poor. I have been there with my husband years ago. I was organising a conference there for delegates from eleven countries hosted by the company I was working for. We did get time to see the place prior to the conference. We too had plans to get a flight to see the Everest but heavy clouds cancelled our plans.

Well Nepal has been quite under-developed for years. And I believe that the politics of the country can be blamed for it to a big extent.

Certainly it is a poor country. Vince's flight was almost cancelled too but in the end he was able to go and got some beautiful shots.

Willingness to take up projects to help the needy is an admirable sentiment. Hope you succeed in raising a lot of money with the raffle at the concert. And I am looking forward to the photos that Vince will be bringing back.

After Vince came back, we bought a goat for a family. A physiotherapist that Vince had met organised the gift. We were surprised how expensive a goat was but they are highly prized there.

I have visited Nepal two years back but I didn't like the place and noticed that Nepalese don't like Indians. That's so kind of your husband.

Some of them are very poor. They gave out the clothes last time and had a biggish jumper left over which they gave to an old man who was nearby watching. Once he realised they were giving him the jumper, he cried.

@mydanods The whole group has been raising money throughout the year. What we raise at the concert will be extra and will help us buy second-hand children's clothing for Vince to take to the children at one of the schools. The people will pay for their own plane tickets, etc.

We aren't any more. We used to be in brass bands and Vince has played drums in a dance band. We have house concerts here although in summer ours are held outside. People bring a picnic if they want to and their own chairs and sit through a concert. We charge an entry fee and the musicians get whatever money that raises. Mostly we get around 100 people which is all we're allowed to have here. We just keep enough money to pay for expenses. The biggest one is insurance and sometimes we have to hire a sound system.

@moffittjc There isn't really a lot to do here. On the trip I could be stuck on a 5 hour really rough bus trip with no way to stop or avoid it. Here, I can stop if I get tired or if my back starts playing up. AND I'll be able to eat whatever I want - stuff like lambs' brains or rice pudding. So it's not all bad.
