Have you tried Hello Fresh?

Hello Fresh is one of those companies where you order your meals and all the ingredients are shipped to you. My daughter and son-in-law enjoy it...you get ingredients that you might not want to buy a lot of for just one recipe. It's some gourmet recipes that are cool sometimes. She signed us up for three meals so we could try it. I'm sorry, but it's just not us. Some of the dishes are strange. We're just used to regular southern cooking. I used the chicken breasts to bake the normal way instead of coating it with pesto and panko. Cooked the chicken thighs the same way. My go-to when I don't want to cook is Hardison's BBQ. They have delicious plate specials during the week which we really like. I hate to admit this, but their chicken and pastry (dumplings sort of) are as good as my home made which takes most of the afternoon to cook. Anyway, do you like those mail order foods? Some people really do like them, but I guess we're too set in our ways. Oh, well.

I have always wanted to try Hello Fresh or Blue Apron.

I've looked at it, but I don't think it would be cost effective for us. We have 6-10 people at dinnertime each night, and using Hello Fresh for even just one meal would be $30-50 (or more)! It's cheaper than eating at a restaurant, but we don't do that every night either.

It works well for my daughter because they're too busy to cook from scratch, but it's not cost effective for us.

@1creekgirl Yeah, my sister used Blue Apron for a while, but she lives alone and works all the time. I think she's so exhausted when she gets home that it's nice for her to have everything already figured out and measured. I have more time to spend working on meals and to take my time researching recipes and grocery shopping, so I don't need to pay for convenience as much as she might.

I subscribed to Hello Fresh a couple times and liked it. Very convenient and great for those learning to cook like me. I ordered for about a month to get used to all sorts of meats and seafood then stopped cause I have an idea how to cook now.

I don't think I'd be happy with having those types of meals delivered. I'm more of a traditional cook and not into gourmet type dishes.

You sound like me. We're just not into that kind of meal...we're more fried chicken and mashed potatoes people.

Pesto and panko are common ingredients in my house, but I wouldn't pay prime $$ for Hello Fresh (or any meal kit company) to ship me a small portion of them. I'd just buy the whole container myself. I am perfectly capable of finding new recipes in my many cookbooks (or online) and purchasing/prepping the ingredients myself. I don't understand why people pay the extra money to meal kit companies to do it for them. It isn't rocket science.

I have not tried that one. We used to order from Omaha steaks years ago. They were not bad but can't replace homemade. We have an Italian deli nearby I have used that is not bad for takeout.

I have watched Alex Mandel (Howie Mandel's son) prepare these meals on his vlog and they look so simple and tasty. However, my husband is a picky eater and I know he wouldn't like the flavourful additions to the food. He doesn't even like vegetables, especially green ones. That is the only thing that is preventing me from at least giving it a try.

I haven't tried these. Vince really just likes experimenting in his own way.

@1creekgirl I know for some recipes we might buy something a bit 'exotic' and most of it gets wasted.

The younger generations are more adventurous in trying out new tastes. I have noticed that I have a tendency to eat only things I like these days, things which I used to like a long time ago.
