What would be your dream holiday?

Assuming that money and time were not problems, what would be your dream holiday? Would you take a cruise on a luxury liner with all comforts laid on, or would you go hiking and camping with nothing but a tent and a swag? Would you spend time lazing on the beach, or would you hit the snow fields? Would you explore your own country, or seek out the cultural centres of the world, or trek through some wild, exotic location? I've visited 15 different countries outside of Australia in my short-term missions work, and I've seen a fair bit of Australia, having lived in three different states and visited every other state and territory except Tasmania and the Northern Territory. Once my idea of a great holiday would have been action, action and more action, but not my inclinations are a little more sedate. If I ever get around to retiring (that's a joke) I would like to get a gypsy wagon and a pair of clydesdales and wander through the country at a clip-clop pace.

I've done everything you mentioned in your first paragraph. One dream holiday that is on my bucket list is to visit Australia one day. I've always dreamed about that since I was about 12 years old. And I've been to places all over this big world, so I'm not sure why I haven't made it to visit Australia yet!

When you do get a chance to come, make sure that you have plenty of time. This is a huge country, as big as Europe, and we have everything from tropical rainforests to snowfields to beaches to the outback. And some great cities, if you happen to like cities.

Although I'm not one for lying on beaches these days I do like a warm location with a sea view. Taking a stroll along a beach surrounded by sand, sea and blue skies would be ideal for me .. I like to swim too.

@ramapo17 It would be a dream right now as the weather is appalling over here at the moment, cold with rain sleet and snow. You wouldn't think we were approaching Spring.

Even those Clydesdales would need a lot of attention, finding food and water for them, making sure they're shod etc.. We like cruising - everything is done for you, with excellent food and entertainment, and you see a bit of the world.

I agree - and you could have done it much more easily once but with the roads like they are nowadays it would be an accident waiting to happen.

I've 2 dream vacations actually to hopefully happen. The first one is to fly to Britain, to see the Royal wedding that's coming up. Staying at a 4 star hotel near where the Royal wedding of Prince Harry would be, taking in all the sites with lots of pictures to remember the holiday. The second dream vacation would be to go to an air balloon festival also staying in a 4 star hotel. Take in the sites with lots of pics again. Love to see both happen!

@lynnief I know what you mean. I have a friend that I have been writing to since I was 12 years old. She was my first and long term penpal. My mom set it up for me. She use to write to someone in England and when I wanted someone to write to she set it up with that lady's niece. . I did get to meet her when I was working on the cruise ships. We stayed in her town for 3 days and she picked me up at the pier and took me to her home for 2 days. Years later, she came to the states with a friend of hers and they stayed at my house for 2 days. We had so much fun and I asked her how come we were having a hard time with the language as sometimes both of us couldn't understand what we were saying. Through the years we always kept in touch and we each took a turn having children after we were married. She had the first one, a girl, so did I and 2 years later she had a boy and so did I. It was very funny.

Yes, sometimes I feel a bit like an Aussie song that used to be popular when I was a kid, "I've been everywhere, man." The nicest thing to me is that, because my travel has all been part of my missions work rather than a holiday, I have been able to stay with the local people, live as they do, and see the place from their point of view, not just as a tourist.

If I had a ton of money, I'd visit the east coast of the U.S. like I did back in 2011. Then, I'd see the Rocky Mountains, which I've never been to before. I'd fly into Phoenix, Arizona, see the desert, and then with a rental car, drive north up into Utah, then east into Colorado before heading back to Phoenix. I'd also like to see Oregon. As for outside of the U.S., I'd like to see New Zealand, Australia, Scotland, and Switzerland.

I've been to Florida twice. I have thought that if I ever get back to the US I would like to catch the train from east to west, rather than flying, to see a bit of the country.

@lynnief All I want to do is mess about on the west coast of Ireland with not much to do except swim and watch clouds and rejoice in the fact that I don’t need an airport experience to get there.

I love traveling and have been to many countries but would still like to go to more. I never get tired of traveling. My favorite way of traveling is on cruise ships and I have been on many. I use to work on cruise ships when I was 20. Many years after marrying, my husband and I went on over 40 cruises. Now I wonder where all that money has gone.

@lynnief I always use to get nervous when flying but through the years I have changed. Sometimes it was the only way to visit my grandsons and nothing would hold me back from that. Now I do not worry any more about flying. I like cruising the most because everything is right in one place. We were on the same cruise line so many times that we ended up getting so many perks and met so many people and I not keep in touch with people from so many countries.

@ramapo17 I love flying, especially the take-offs and landings. It's the fastest you will ever travel legally on land. :-) The only thing I don't like about travelling by air is airports, which always make me feel pressured.

Japan, in a heartbeat, no hesitation, I want to go to Japan so badly. It has been a dream of mine since I was probably 4 years old. I don't care where in Japan, just anywhere. I would like to go Harajuku or Akihabara mostly, but I would love to go to Kyoto for the true culture or even Nara would be fun. i'm not a camping person, I don't go for thrill, I love culture.

@lynnief When I was growing up my mom raised me on a lot of different Asian movies, a lot of stuff was Chinese which is also great, but she noticed how I watched anime when I was 3 years old and she got me books about Japan and I have been in love with it ever since. I am currently learning how to read the language and hopefully how to speak it. I know the holidays, I know the religions, the stores, the morals and manners and mannerisms. Even to the point of learning the laws haha! I just always loved it.

@DesirousDreamer that's great. Have you looked at for your language studies? It's free, and they have a lot of different languages, I think including Japanese.
Learn languages by playing a game. It's 100% free, fun, and scientifically proven to work.
