Rest in Peace, Stephen Hawking

While I knew he was a genius in a wheelchair who talked with a computerized voice, I do not know much about the things he is known for. Physics and blackholes. However I do know that he overcame great physical limitations in order to achieve his goals. He even did a few risky things like taking a zero gravity flight, and going in a hot air balloon. When asked why he did these things he replied, “I want to show that people need not be limited by physical handicaps as long as they are not disabled in spirit.” While I don't know much about him, he must have had a sense of humor. He wrote a number of children's books explaining his theories in simple form. (That's where I would start, ha!) Another thought I had when I learned the news - was that I hope there are other people out there, other "thinkers". Wishing peace to his family, friends and fans at this time. *information confirmed from this article :
A physicist and best-selling author, he did not allow his physical limitations to hinder his quest to answer “the big question: Where did the universe come from?”

He lived a long time for someone with motor neurone disease and was more famous for that than for his scientific work I think. He was also married twice and had children, which was even more amazing. He was quoted that being given the computerised voice (albeit American) give him an identity. He had a great sense of humour too. Have you read A Brief History of Time? Apparently you need a brain the size of a planet to understand it.

I think you may be right. I knew of him better because of his wheelchair usage, computerized voice and popular culture references. I have to admit, I knew he had kids and I , uh.... wondered.... ah not my business.... but still... I'm way too intimidated to even try that book. Though now I may look at his kid's books, that would be my level at physics. lol
