I Need to Adult

It will be a year, at the end of this month, that our granddaughter came to stay with us. Can't believe it has been a year already. We love having her here with us. Even with the challenges of raising a 2 year old child, it can be fun. However, I do miss doing adult things. Had a heated discussion with my husband about the fact that he is able to go out to play and I sit home with our granddaughter. I no longer get to go play without having a child in tow. My sister wants to take me out to lunch tomorrow and then a movie. I have to find someone to care for Little Miss. Hoping that my eldest daughter will come to my aid. The only problem with that is she has RA and has had a flair with it causing her a great deal of pain. I just left her a message and hope she responds soon. My husband is great with Little Miss, but I doubt he can handle her or more than an hour or 2 at the most. He gets distracted with his cell phone and that can prove to be a disaster! Kids can get into all sorts of mischief in a matter of seconds! So, I sit and wait, and hope that soon, I can adult again. Even if it is for a short time.

I am sorry you cannot have fun and only your husband can. He should know it is not fair to you and he needs to get on board with taking care of your granddaughter too.

When I pointed this out to him he sat there dumbfounded and couldn't come up with a response. He knew I was right. He did try to say that I spend time with my sister. My response was yes, we went grocery shopping. Fun.

@Hannihar I made my point to him. Just have to find a way to resolve the problem.

I remember when Little Miss came to live with you. Is it really a whole year ago? You really need some time occasionally to call your own. Are there any respite services you can utilise?

There are, but I don't want to leave her with strangers.

Having kids in the house does change things for sure. As nice as it is to have them around, it is nice to be able to be an adult and do things for ourselves.

I haven't done anything for myself in so long I feel cheated just a little.

@ElusiveButterfly I can definitely imagine. We all need some time for ourselves and do things. Otherwise, it's just not quite the same.

@DianneN I doubt it will happen anytime soon. I have to work this week and the weekend too. Not looking forward to it. Hopefully I will get out at a decent time.

I have to talk to him about it. My daughter did respond and will be coming over in the morning and stay until the early afternoon. We decided to skip the movies because there isn't much playing at the matinee.

If it were my mom she would really be thrilled to be with her granddaughter, but for the time being there is no baby she can play with. I am sure you will be able to get that adult time. Just trust.
