Shocked? Yes, I too got shocked when I read about this spice which was known as King of spices then. The Arabs used to sell this spice to Western World at the rate of Gold’s price! Do you know about which spice I am talking? Right I am talking about Nutmeg! This spice originated in Indonesia and West Indies is now spread all over the World. In India this spice is grown in the state of Kerala! Nutmeg is a spice that goes well with sweet dishes and the dishes like curries and fries. You will be amazed to know that nutmeg is used in the popular drink ‘Coca Cola’ and it is used in many sweets all over the world! This Spice is known to have many beneficial properties! Do you use Nutmeg? Do you know the benefits of this spice? Please respond, your response will be highly appreciated! Thanks!

@rakski It is a huge tree and yields profusely but this year the buyer said we should wait and did not buy when offered.

I think since this spice is not having its origin in western countries and it used to be very expensive it could get a place in common man's kitchen! There are many recipes available on net where you will see how this ingredient can be used! Thanks @OneOfMany!

I love grated nutmeg on top of rice puddings. There are a few food ingredients which were once very expensive but are now commonplace.

Yes, I use nutmeg, but it is far to be as expensive as gold. The price for whole nutmegs is about $25 per kilogram.

@AKRao24 I like the taste, we add nutmeg to different dishes. Also tulips were very expensive in the past. Until the price dropped in one night. I see this happening again with something "crypto" now.

I can understand that...in India we make a sweet dish something similar to Ice cream where the curds out of whole milk i.e cream included in it is hung in a muslin cloath and hanged overnight to get rid of the water content. Next day this curd is added with finely powdered sugar and grated nutmeg along with dry fruits of one's taste together with small amount of Saffron and mixed thoroughly! This is kept in fridge for few hours and had as a dessert! You can try this recipe if you are having a sweet tooth @MALUSE! Thanks a lot! Stay blessed! PS: This dish is known as 'Shrikhand' and you can search for details in recipe only if you are interested!

@AKRao24 I love Indian food, but I can't eat anything too spicy since I had my gallbladder removed. I used to go to the Sikh Temple in my old neighborhood for lunch every day. Traditional Indian Chai is one of my favorite beverages. :-)

I can understand why it is so valued. It tastes awesome as well. I have bought nutmeg already ground but prefer to do my own, since the flavor is more intensive. What would pumpkin pie be without nutmeg??
