How could that boy race properly?

As a NASCAR fan, I have been seeing a Toyota commercial recently about a deaf boy who wants to race and his dream is to one day race with the NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin. I got to thinking, if the boy succeeds and makes it into the high leagues of NASCAR racing, how is he going to be able to race properly without being able to hear? The whole length of a race, entails the racers being able to hear what their crew chiefs and spotters say to them through their ear pieces. Then I started thinking, I bet NASCAR has already solved that problem. I bet (even though they have not mentioned it), that they have some kind of device for deaf racers, where the crew chief and spotters speak into a device and the words are put out onto a lit up electronic pad that is positioned in front of the deaf person's eyes. I could not find the commercial on YouTube but I did find a clip about the commercial and how Denny Hamlin was honored to be a part of the young racer's dreams.
A new Toyota commercial tells the story of a young boy who is deaf and inspired to race by Denny Hamlin, and the No. 11 driver gets choked up remembering his...

It wouldn't necessarily be a distraction. If you've ever looked inside a race car, they have dozens of garages, controls and switches that they constantly have to monitor throughout the race. Having a display panel to help the deaf driver communicate would not necessarily be that much of a distraction, considering how much they have to monitor all the other things in their car already.

I agree with you there must be a device that give him some kind of signals he can feel and he knows what they mean.

They must have some way of communicating with the boy. Is he totally deaf? It sounds as if he is.

I am wondering the same. How can he race properly without being able to hear? He can be a danger for the others too.

It would be an easy solution for NASCAR to equip his car with a teleprompter. I'm already thinking that the NASCAR vehicles of the future will probably have heads-up displays in them like our military fighter jets have now. That way, the driver (or pilots in the case of the jets) can see everything they need to see simply by looking straight ahead at the heads-up display on the glass of their windshields.

It can distract him while seeing the device but I guess he's talented enough to do multitasking.
