There's a Bomb in my Car!!

Okay, there isn't exactly one... but there might be a potential failure that causes an explosion! I just got a recall notice in the mail stating that my car 'may' have a failure of the airbag inflator, should it be deployed in an accident. The inflator that fails, would explode, sending shrapnel through the interior of the car, basically killing anyone that it is supposed to protect. I'm supposed to get additional details in the future on when the parts become available, but let's hope that I have one of the non-exploding ones... or that better yet, I never have the need to find out!

Yikes ! We got the recall notice on both our cars about the airbags - I don't know if it said THAT though! Seriously get it done asap - we wouldn't want you to find out either!

@OneOfMany If you don't call them, they will call you - and keep calling til it gets scheduled! They might tell you to switch cars with them (they'll give you a rental) until the fix is done - so you are not driving around in this potentially dangerous vehicle. I've had friends who had a rental for nearly 2 months! I actually had 2 recalls . . . one on the passenger side - and later on the driver side. The first recall I had a rental for about 2 weeks. The second time I had to go in for something - can't remember - and they were able to do it on the same appointment - just took a little longer that day.

@much2say I'm tall, so I can't drive most cars. The last time they tried to give me a rental for a regular repair, I didn't even fit in the vehicle. I flat out demanded them to return my car and they complied. I drove there with no problem, so why were they thinking I would have one driving back? I will hope that it's a small repair. It doesn't seem like it would take all that much to replace.

I think I'll give the dealership a call next week, to see what they know about it.

Thats cause for paranoia. Talk to the manufacturer. They should be able to tell you depending on the year it was made and the make of your vehicle. :-)

I was sent the letter because it concerns my car in particular. XD But I'm a little less worried after re-reading the letter. It's not my airbag, but the passenger one. And I rarely travel with a passenger.

@OneOfMany But still. During a crash don't they both inflate?

@Starmaiden I have the option of turning it off. I think it senses when a passenger is there or not, because when I'm driving alone, it's off.

Well, I haven't had an airbag go off in any car I've owned, but there was one time before when I was 16.

Well thank heavens they informed you and thank heavens nothing happened that you had to find out otherwise. Hope it all works out alright.
