Driving the snakes out of Ireland

Ireland has no native snakes. Legend has it that Saint Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. As today, March 17th, is the day that people around the world celebrate St. Patrick's Day, I thought I'd share one of many clips that explain a bit about Ireland's National Saint. This day in 2018 is also the day that Ireland play rugby against England in Twickenham (just outside London, England), in the final of this year's Six Nations Cup - come on Ireland! Wherever you are, enjoy the celebrations today!
A short video on the Story of Saint Patrick by Gerry Healy, Wavy Hand Productions, Dublin, Ireland.

My husband and I have no reason whatsoever to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. :-(

@MALUSE A quick opinion needed: If you were looking for a lapel pin to show yours and your spouse's nationalities, which would you expect from the upper and lower of the picture above? Knowing what you do of my situation, which would you think my wife would expect to receive? This is not a trick question, as should become clear after you answer, indulge me, please.

@pgntwo I didn't know the Irish colours. So I checked them on the net. The lower one is the Irish one: green, white, orange. The upper one is the Italian flag: green, white, red. I look forward to your response, but now I have to continue watching a Krimi set in Istanbul.

Are you still snakes free in Ireland? I could move there if it's the case. The cartoon is hilarious.

@xFiacre I cannot stand snakes, when I see one in the garden I do not go out for days.

@ladyduck This is why I’m reluctant to move from my snake-free paradise - I can’t abide the vile creatures.

@LadyDuck I cannot abide a snake in the grass myself. Thankfully, none of the reptilian variety here

The Jack Russell Terrier is our able assistant there!
These 10 breeds will prove to you that dogs are better than cats at catching rats and mice.

Did you win? I don't follow rugby but have to listen to a couple of blokes at work have a natter about it.

Yes, Ireland won, doing "the triple" in the process - they had already got enough points to win the cup from the previous game against Scotland in Dublin last week.

@pgntwo So, if I say Isn't it brilliant that Ireland did the triple! I'll sound like I know what I'm talking about?

He is one my dearest saints. The cartoon made me smile. I never thought of St. Patrick driving out the snakes this way.

I'd never thought of it that way before, having spent many summer evenings in my teens driving a herd of dairy cattle from some far-flung field back to the byre to be milked... all on foot.

Now I didn't know about snakes and saint Patrick.. We don't celebrate St. Patrick's day at all and I think we don't have Irish people here. But we have Irish potato fries!

slow worm courtesy of The Journal
"Slow Worms" sure look like snakes to me! But let's call them "legless lizards" so nobody realizes we really have snakes, just like every other place in the world! Yes, yes, I know "somebody illegally released them" in Ireland in the 1970s!
