Fine Arts Day

Fine Arts Day is a tradition in our little community. Both last year and this year we began with a mini concert by a fairly new recording artist, both years it has been country music. I was not in the assembly early enough to catch his name, but if I learn it later I will edit here. This singer then had "music class" with various groups of kids, in place of their regular music class. He let them record with him and explained how mixing the sound works. Other arts related activities included High School art students and their teachers coaching the kids on drawing. The theme was "What would a dinosaur do at the beach?" Instead of PE they put a disco ball out, turned out the gym lights and danced to various videos. One of the most fun things was the forensics students. They did improvisational drama with the students. They were so funny. This was a good kick off day for spring break. Another program this district has is sponsored by a private college nearby. Their student athletes from various sports come to read to our students during lunch, and then go to recess with them and play ball of all kinds. It is a great little system they have here.

It seems that especially in the summer we can find festivals and such just about every weekend. We get to see lots of things.

Great for the older kids to share with the younger ones.

What a nice community to be living in. Sharing is what a community is all about.

Even though many communities have cut back on fine arts programs there are ways to still enjoy art in the community.

That is a worthy day to have. The arts are so important. Will there also be green pics today for St Pats?
