I love green, along with the rest of the rainbow it's my favorite color ~^^~

Just playing around with the background and edges for a pic with Excel and Paint.

Ok, I might be stepping on a few toes when I tell you what my view of St Paddy's day is. Since I am not apologizing for my view may I simply ask that you tolerate my view as much as I tolerate yours? Thanks in advance. Ok, I have read a lot about the ancient times this saint lived in and given the ruthless nature of the christians of those times I am celebrating the fact that he finally died so that perhaps Ireland's indigenous people could recover from his ruthless need to slaughter all pagans. For that reason I am celebrating that his need to slaughter was finally stopped. Yes, folks, I am wearing green and no, I am not catholic.

I suspect he tried to save lives, at the price of their conversion to christianity. Hmm, I see your point...

Well, I'm Irish and I'm Catholic and I am not a fan of all things that went into the making of the Ireland we know today. But I think there was plenty of blame to go around on both sides, the druids and the Christians. But hey, we all celebrate what makes us happy and that is as it should be. And I didn't wear green but I did eat that very American dish corned beef and cabbage.

Actually, the Christians were the invaders of the Druid homeland so I blame the Christians much the same as the Christians were the invaders of the Americas and did the same thing to the Native Americans.

Yes, the celts were the first to migrate to the British Isles, Ireland, Scotland and all that @BelleStarr but Christianity seems to have hit Britain before it hit Ireland. Apparently the Pope in the 300s or 400s sent bishops to Ireland, Scotland and such to reform and convert them. Those who did not agree to convert were more often than not executed, the pope in those times was an extremely harsh man. In the 1500s it was the pope who condoned the burning of Protestants as heretics which Bloody Mary was happy to do, very brutal if you ask me.

I am not convinced that the druids can claim Ireland as a homeland but certainly the Celts did invade at some point and the druids were part of their culture..... Since I am both Irish and Native American I guess I am what happens to the culture.

I am not religious at all. I have really never looked into what Saint Patrick's day is about so this made my jaw drop. I shouldn't be so surprised though after all the other things we are taught but yet such important details are left out like with Columbus etc.

@rebelann Very true! I am not religious but I do try to be the kindest person I can be. Religion or no I would not have thought it was okay to do what they did if I were them.

No, you would not have @shaggin but for some reason those people back then thought it was ok to do that in the name of their respective gods.

I'd read an article on the era he was in some years ago and how ruthless everyone seemed to be whenever a conqueror invaded a country then would ruthlessly begin to try to get all the natives to conform to their way of worshipping, it was such a bloody mess in those days. I have to wonder if anyone back then actually thought about what their God would think about killing in their name simply because someone believed differently. It probably never occurred to them.

I figured there was some important story behind the holiday that no one knows. I just always wore green because I hate people touching me and I especially hate getting pinched.

I like green and wear it a lot no matter the date. I can see what you mean, people shouldn't always want to touch others, it isn't always welcome.

It is about one of the Catholic Saints, it is not a real holiday like Christmas or something like that.

Its the coming of Spring and the Celtic music that calls to me more than Saint Paddy and his trappings.

Yes, the Catholic church in the 400s was known for slaughtering those who would not convert to their religion and when Rome sent Paddy to Ireland he proceeded to do his best to convert the pagans to his religion and those who resisted were killed.
