Life Changes So Fast

You never fully appreciate something until you no longer have it. This goes for basic things such as the ability to walk and go to the bathroom. Since I've broken my ankle, even hobbling up and down the hall from my bedroom to the bathroom has become an obstacle. I hurt all over and loathe getting up to use the toilet. But this is my reality now, for the time being anyway, so I have no choice but to deal with it. I haven't had a proper shower in almost a week. I have been making do with sponge baths and wiping myself down with baby wipes. It doesn't replace a real shower, though. Not in the slightest. I shudder to think what people smelled like in the old days when bathing wasn't a regular activity they engaged in. My hair feels nasty and desperately needs washing. My partner says he will try to wash it in the kitchen sink later. My sister did wash it for me in the sink on Thursday, but that was a few days ago already. I am not used to going so long without washing my hair or bathing. I dread Monday morning and having to use the stairs to get to my appointment with the orthopedist. My partner took the day off from work so he can help me. I hope it's not raining that day and that I'm able to get down and then back up without any serious issues. The last thing I need is another broken bone! It's just crazy how fast things can change. In the blink of the eye I lost my mobility and independence, even if it is temporary. Thank the stars my injury wasn't worse. I could have hit my head or broken my neck. From now on I will have to be very, VERY careful when going up and down the stairs to our apartment. In spite of everything, I have somehow kept my sense of humor. I do have moments where I start feeling depressed or sorry for myself, usually when I am tired and feel like I can't push myself any further. Who would have ever thought that the simple act of getting up to go pee would become a challenge? Life can change so fast. I didn't appreciate having the ability to walk around until I found myself stuck in bed needing to rely on others to help me with everything. I know this will pass, and I can't wait for it to do so. But for now, it really, really sucks. Image is mine, and is of my ankle as it appeared on Tuesday while I was waiting in the ER for my X-ray results. It swelled up even bigger than that before they wrapped it in a splint, believe it or not.

Ouch!! Oh my goodness I'm sorry you're in pain and going through this. That's awful. =( I hope you heal very quickly-I will be praying for that! I also agree, we don't realize what we have until it's gone.

Oh yikes! I joked about that happening the other day. Just my luck I'll break out all over, even though they're for sensitive baby skin.

That picture STILL makes me cringe. OUCH! I am glad you are currently on the mend. I am glad you still have your sense of humor but look on the brighter side which I know you do sometimes. At least you get to relax and have an excuse not to clean lol.

@Srbageldog Yeah, you would think. Sounds like Cory though, I have to nag him to do anything and he gives me attitude but will eventually maybe do it.

I am actually dreading the cast coming off, because it means I get to go back to doing all the chores! And nobody has cleaned up around here in the entire 6 weeks I've been in a cast...I was hoping Shawn would take it upon himself to sweep or vacuum, or something...

@sissy15 Well, I've got 2 more weeks to go, so I guess I can put off chores a while longer...

It looks terrible. Yes, looking at the bright side, it helps to appreciate what you give for granted.

@Srbageldog It was so swollen I thought it was dislocated too, thankfully it wasn't.

Fortunately the swelling has gone down quite a bit since then. When I got my cast put on last week, my foot was still pretty swollen and bruised, but looked nothing like this, thankfully. I feared it was dislocated on top of being broken!

I am so sorry, I did not know you hurt your ankle so badly. How do you feel now? In how many days will you be able to walk normally again?

I am still in a great deal of pain. I do not know how long it will take for it to heal. Tomorrow morning I will see the orthopedist and will hopefully have some idea of how long I will be in a cast. I am also hoping I will get my cast tomorrow. Right now I just have a splint, which isn't very stable.

It wasn't so bad in the olden days because everybody stank. So people didn't notice the stink. I can recommend this book:
Amazon.com: Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (9780375725845): Patrick Suskind, John E. Woods: Books

That is bad! Your poor ankle. When I hurt mine 2 weeks ago I could not walk up and down the flight of stairs into my house, I had to sit down and ease myself up and down them, I did that for days so I understand stairs. I sure hope the doctors fix you up and soon. Sending good vibes your way!

I may have to scoot up and down the stairs. I managed to hop up them on one leg the night this happened, but it was very difficult even with my boyfriend's help. And he almost slipped while helping me up the stairs, which would have been BAD! Thank you, I hope they fix my ankle up soon too. I've also got my fingers crossed that surgery won't be needed to fix it. Although maybe it would heal faster with surgery! Thanks for the good vibes, I sure appreciate them.

As they say, life is precious and it is too short to realize that we should have done the things we needed to do. I am sorry, I am all is well on your side. Maybe we just need to learn to live life to the fullest and appreciate it while we still have it.

@Srbageldog that should be the mantra that all people should have so that in the end they wont realize it was too late.
