An Unusual Sight

Happy Sunday all! I had the chance to go get brunch with a friend I hadnt seen in a while and we parked at her house to walk the 4 blocks to this new Korean restaurant that opened up (it was delicious by the way) while walking on residential streets we heard a strange noise and passed this little guy. A white turkey! This is the first in 27 years of seeing a white turkey in my city. These are not commonplace. I almost wish it could talk so I could ask it - what's your story? Where are you from? Have you seen any unusual critters like this lately? Commonplace here to see wandering without blinking an eye are squirrels, rabbits, ducks and geese, wild turkeys (brown or black in color)and probably some others that I am forgetting. Every time I went to Mexico, iguanas were rampant- they were like the squirrels of Mexico it seemed. Since we have members from all over I would be interested in knowing -What kind of critters are common to be roaming where you live?

We recently saw a hog and yesterday a big beautiful rooster was in my parents yard. We do live in a rural country area though.

Squirrels, skunks, opossum, raccoons, ground squirrels, turkey ( black and brown) deer and coyotes. Many types of birds. Snakes and lizards. Alligators in some lakes.

Oh wow. Alligators! Those sound incredibly frightening. Do you know how to determine which lakes have alligators?

When I go to the countryside, I would see a white water buffalo. It still amazes me. They're usually black and not white, but once in awhile I'd see a white one. They call it albino. It's watermelon season here and the Philippine watermelon variety is just green, no stripes, just green. Recently I saw striped yellow green ones. And this weekend I saw yellow ones! When I was a kid, I only saw the green ones .I think the green ones, our original variety ones are the best though.

I don't believe I've ever seen a white turkey. We don't get a lot of wildlife here - just rabbits and squirrels mostly.

We see quite a lot of white turkeys here. Some people only breed the white ones.

We saw a peacock in our yard last year. Turns out it was a local persons pet that escaped.

Here the white turkeys are pets or being raised by a family to butcher when fattened up.
