Plastic tumblers and standing up

Seeing as we are right around St.Patrick's Day I thought I would tell you about something that happened a few years ago. It's probably some mundane detail from my life, but it stuck out quite a bit in my mind.
4 years ago, I went with some friends up north. Real party destination and tourist spot in north Minnesota. It's usually jam packed in summer, but it was quiet when we went - which was for St. Patrick's day. See the local area had a ton of bars having specials and the locally famous "St.Patrick's Day Parade".
It was unseasonably warm and the parade was fun. There were these 2 loud (probably drunk) college age girls next to me. But they were nice to little old me and we were all having a good time.
Of course the floats threw the traditional goodies like candy and beads. One threw a plastic tumbler or drinking glass emblazoned with the logo of a local photographer.
It landed near the loud college girls and rolled right next to my foot. So I picked it up. The loud college girl exclaimed that her tumbler was "stolen" from her. I struck me wrong. It rolled near my feet, so I picked it up. It isn't like I ripped it out of her hands or something. Normally I wouldn't have said anything and I would have felt ashamed for the rest of the parade.
But this one I wasn't going to let slide. I strode up to her and told her that I only picked it up because it rolled near my feet. I held it out and I said "here, take it. You need it worse than I do." Or something like that. To which she blushed and said no thanks.
Everytime I use the tumbler, I think about standing up for myself.
As a side note - do businesses in your area make customized tumblers like these? They are quickly becoming a favorite of mine, even though I have nice glass drinking glasses.
DO you have an item in particular that reminds you of a time you did something positive.
Photo:mine - It's my plastic tumbler collection with the St.Patrick's day one front and center.

I am glad she did not make a big deal about it and get really nasty. We have holidays and I do cups for them for me.

True. Some people seem to need to excuse. Then again she had been drinking....
Cool! I would like to see your cups!

@FayeHazel Do certain drinks come in certain glasses?

@just4him Yeah - at least at that place - in the photo it's the yellow one from "pirate fest". You made a bit more for the drink if you wanted the re-usable tumbler. In hindsight I should have just asked if they would sell me the empty tumbler(which had ginger ale and 2 gingers whiskey in it - not as tasty as it sounded)

Here I get them a lot at outdoor concerts, 1 from a bar (that was silly, I paid, like $9 for a drink I ended up not liking, just because I liked the pirate on the yellow tumbler), parade

I like using them. I figure they won't break. Funny thing is I have carpeting - I doubt a glass would break even if I dropped it. lol

@FayeHazel Picking broken glass out of a carpet wouldn't be any fun.

It's weird that I like these. I have paranoia about breaking a glass. But I have carpeting - so I doubt I could even break a glass if I dropped it

Good for you! Sad she probably doesn't even remember her behavior that day.

Good memories of a time much needed to help you see who you really are.

Oh cool idea there too. Yeah the paint does seem to flake off of them easily. Meh

Never knew that a tumbler could have such symbolism. But certainly this one does. Sometimes you just have to stand your ground. As for whether I have a particular item-I am not sure that I do. Although I do have a hard copy of my Pink Flamingoes album which is on iTunes, and a poster from an anthology I edited, "Dark Whispers," which is still on Amazon. For me they are just reminders that I followed through with something I wanted to do.

When I was younger and living on my own, these were all I had to drink from.
