Digital or Manual, Which is More Accurate Blood Pressure Monitor?

Do you always monitor your blood pressure? My doctor advised me to always monitor my blood pressure although I consider my bp on the borderline for an adult, which is 140/90. Although still normal, one should be conscious enough not to have a higher bp than that. And so, I always need a BP monitor. I am having a hard time using a manual one because I can't rely on others to lend me a hand in using it; so I prefer a digital or an automatic one. Do you also monitor your blood pressure? Do you think a digital or automatic BP monitor is also accurate?

I used a digital blood pressure machine. I have high blood pressure and my doctor said a digital is pretty accurate.

I've had my blood pressure monitored for a good time and nurses always said the manual one is more accurate.

@acelawrites The digital was tested against the manual and both were accurate.

@DianneN , thanks, it reminded me to take the digital one to the clinic so I can compare the results.

So they say, I agree, but I do not have another individual to take the readings for me. So it is hard, unless I go to a clinic or a hospital to have the nurses take m bp using the manual one.

They say that a manual blood pressure monitor is much more accurate than the digital. The digital is one or 2 numbers higher. At home, we have a manual BP monitor. In the office, we use the digital. I only have my bp taken when I feel dizzy. I have a normal bp which is always at 100/80. Sometimes it would be 110/ 70 or 90. I have read a health article that the new pre-high blood bp is 120/80. I guess they are just making sure that those with high blood should maintain a lower than that bp.

I can not use our manual BP monitor alone, so hard to determine where the pulse begins. You have a good BP status, congrats for that. Mine is at the borderline, sometimes 130/88 or 140/90.

@acelawrites Are you taking a maintenance for it already? My hubby is in maintenance already since many years ago. He is just 52. Hey, it was said on a radio program that the new high blood bp is 130/80. I think, that way, people will really all be cautious to make their bp lower.

I personally feel that digital should be more accurate as it can catch the nerve more accurately. What if Doctor is old and has some hearing issues. He might not catch the sound. Am I exaggerating? LOL, please spare me!

That is true, even me, I had been trying to use the manual one, and I had the hard time listening to my own pulse beat.

We use a digital bp machine to make sure our bp is in the normal range. The guidelines have changed to 120/80.

I thought it was 110/80, the normal range for younger people.

@acelawrites I have no idea of how old you are lol
Highlights: High blood pressure is now defined as readings of 130 mm Hg and higher for the systolic blood pressure measurement, or readings of 80 and higher for the diastolic measurement. That is a change from the old definition of 140/90 and higher,...

140/90 is considered now to be hypertensive. 120/80is now the borderline BP. Why do I know it? I have an asymptomatic hypertension. Meaning my bp is high but I do not feel anything.

The doctors say so; that if one have 140/90 BP, one needs to be cautious about it.

I think Vince's is manual but he seems able to manage it. It's good to keep an eye on your BP.

Thank you. Yes, I always monitor my BP particularly when I am not feeling well, or even when I think there's a need to check it.

I use a digital one and it works just fine. When I go to the doctor's office and they do the readings manually there, they come out to about the same as what the digital monitor I have at home says.

Maybe there's only a minimal difference; but having a BP monitor is so important if one is suspecting she/he has BP problems.

I do not know but I use the digital one because it is easier. I only check my BP once in a blue moon.

Maybe you don't have any blood pressure problem, that's why you are not so concerned about checking about your BP status. Congrats for that!

Yes, I have digital BP monitor. My doctor said to choose one that you put on your arm, because the ones that you put on your wrist are less accurate.

It is common to have the cuff placed at the left arm, which is nearer the heart. I haven't used one that is using the wrist to take the BP.
