Almost Had a Meltdown over an Insurance Form Today

I don't usually react so strongly, but I didn't get much sleep last night. My heart decided to race from 5pm last night to 5 am this morning, and I can't sleep while it's racing. I had to wake up at 7 for one pill and again at 10:30 for another. By then I knew I wouldn't be able to get any more sleep, so I got up. One of the first things I did was get dressed and walk to the mailbox. And when I opened my mail, I saw the form from Medicare. I was tardy getting it because I haven't felt up to going to the mailbox, especially in the rain. The form said I'd need to respond in ten days, and it was dated March 1. The form involved paying my primary care provider for my health insurance, which is a Medicare Advantage Plan. The doctor had submitted three bills they wouldn't pay because they were related to my accident in June. I had submitted them to my auto insurance company. The form from Medicare included a cover form that was already filled out. But I had questions. I tried to call the toll-free number and was told the wait time was one hour and twenty minutes. I hung up. I was too tired to think straight. To even get in line on the phone I had to give them my Social Security number, which I had. But they also wanted my enrollment date, which I did not have, because my card was in a bank safety deposit box. I don't use it, but instead a separate ID from my Medicare Advantage Plan. I did not feel good enough to drive to the bank across town to get it. It was then I noticed that if the form they had sent had been filled in properly , I didn't have to do anything. But it had asked for my auto insurance policy number, and the agent had filled in the claim number instead. Rather than get in the Medicare phone line, I called the rep I'd been working with from my auto insurance company. She explained there would be no problem accepting the form that had been enclosed and said I wouldn't have to respond. Big relief. So I didn't completely go crazy. Maybe I would have handled it better if I'd been able to sleep long enough last night. I got a call from the heart surgeon today and my consultation has been moved up to this Wednesday, so I won't have to wait until Friday to start working on a new plan. The meds I'm taking just aren't doing the job. I'm thankful I will see the doctor sooner than I had expected. Tomorrow we go to my husband's doctor so he can get a neurological test to uncover possible reasons he gets off-balance and falls. The next day we go south again for my appointment. It's supposed to rain both days, and I hate traveling up and down the Cuesta Grade in the rain. I'm hoping maybe the rain will take a break while we are on the grade. Have you had a near meltdown lately over anything stressful?

I'm sorry to hear that you were having such a rough time over your forms. Hopefully you don't have to do it often.

@dodo19 Thank you. I try to be careful. That accident was not my fault.

I hope I don't get injured in another accident. If I don't, I won't need to fill in these kinds of forms.

Glad the insurance thing turned out okay @bagarad . Make sure they check his ears and check for Temporal Enteritis. Sometimes if there is a blockage in the ear (eardrum or cochlea) it can cause dizziness. The Enteritis is a blockage of the blood vessels in the temples.

We'll have to look into that. He wasn't really dizzy, just off-balance.

@nanette64 We are looking into it. I guess the last accident delayed our calling the doctor for a new appointment to get the results of the test.

Not a meltdown so to say but a lot of stress, trying to let it all go and just take things day by day.

@bagarad Having come so close the alternative, I will take life any way I can get it!

I can't take more than one day at a time. Life just keeps happening, fast and furious. But I guess that's better than the alternative.

not really... but sometimes being stressed inevitable. so now, you relax, inhale and exhale and things will go accordingly. take one step at a time.

I'm glad we only have to live one day at a time. Today we opened a new bank account (see response to Anna above) and got my husband to the doctor. I won't think anymore about the insurance problem unless it's not solved after all as I think it is.

You wouldn't think these types of problems would need to be so hard to deal with. And with both of you not well, it must get very exasperating and tiring.

I'm glad the car insurance claims person was able to solve my dilemma so I didn't have to worry about the form anymore. Dealing with private companies who want to keep your business is much different than dealing with government bureaucrats to whom you really don't matter.

@bagarad Yes the bureaucrats have a totally different attitude towards the public.

With the problems you are having you need to learn to calm down, I am saying this not to be mean but to be helpful. If you have a heart attack that bill won`t matter anyways. Having a panic attack is not helping your health problems, so do not worry about a bill, it`ll get paid and all you have to do it relax and focus, things get done faster when we are calm. I am glad the Dr. appointment is moved up.

These aren't panic attacks. I wasn't stressed so much about the bill as the process of handling the paperwork and dealing with bureaucrats when I was so tired. This is an electrical problem in my heart -- a short circuit as the doctor put it. I'm normally pretty calm and I've never had a real panic attack that I know of -- at least nothing resembling what my friends who do have them describe. I do tend to get grumpy when I'm hungry and I don't think very clearly when I'm sleep deprived as I was that night.

Aww all that likely would send me into a meltdown as well. Sometimes a good deep cry can make you feel better after. I've been so weak lately from the anemia but today so far I feel a little better. That's not good your medicines are not working. I remember wondering if that would happen where you would have to keep taking the medication earlier and earlier. I'm glad you both have appointments as I don't think these issues should wait.

We got through my husbands neurological test today. My consultation with the surgeon is tomorrow. After that I can make an appointment for us to go over the results of my husband's test with his neurologist. I hope there's a lull in the predicted rain while we are driving and shopping after the appointment tomorrow. It poured today.
