Catch a Falling Star

“Catch a Falling Star” was a song recorded by Perry Como and on March 14, 1958 the RIAA awarded its first official Gold Record to the singer for this hit. It was very surprising since by this time well-known rock and rollers like Elvis had already taken center stage. Como was already in his fifties and dressed conservatively. However, he did had a certain style and held his own with other songs also like “Hot Diggity” and “Round and Round”. Luck was with him because the British Invasion had not yet begun. Once Como was awarded the first Gold Record the next artist was Laurie London for “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”. The third Gold went to Elvis in August of 1958 for “Hard Headed Woman” and by the end of 1961 Elvis’ Gold Record was tied on the RIAA’s list with Lawrence Welk whose “Calcutta” was certified in February 1961. So before rock and roll really go going songs were a mix of a little of this and a little of that. You don’t even have to wonder which song I chose to represent here. Can you imagine Elvis being tied with Lawrence Welk?

Wow, has it been that long!? Those were the days... Perry Como could really sing! He was Mom's favorite singer and one of mine. Not many can sing like he could.

@teamfreak16 Actually not a bad take on this because I do know someone who was involved in a discussion I believe online on Quora I forgot the question but it did have to do with THE ELVIS and he got him mixed up with Elvis Costello giving the answer pertaining to Costello and totally made a mess of things. Needless to say, the conversation was deleted.
