Today I went to the Pool

It's still cold out and snow is on the ground. Obviously, I went to an indoor pool at a nearby YMCA (30 minutes away, but that's close enough). My objective is to just exercise a bit, but I do have a goal: swim the entire length underwater. It's my crazy exercise to increase my lung capacity. I have done this in lots of other pools, and I always love getting to the other side on one breath. Sadly, my lung capacity now is shot. This pool is half the size of an Olympic pool, so not that gigantic. The previous time I went, I got within ten feet before I really needed air. This time was much worse. My underwater swimming style is to swim along the bottom using a frog kick. I don't use my arms and just hold them at my sides. My kick forces me down and forward at the same time. If I don't control it just right, I smack the bottom, so my goal is to hover just above the bottom and get across fast. I was defeated again today, but hopefully in the future I will make it! Does anyone else do this, or am I the only one who likes to be underwater swimming across a big pool?

I'm a pirate, modestly. Really, I can't swim.

@OneOfMany Aww. I like your name, by the way. Yeah, I know.

@sabtraversa Thank you, I like it too! Sabrina is really pretty too. Although I can't help but think of witches after that television show "Sabrina the Witch" or something like that. *pulls out the kiddie pool and prepares some floaties* Let's start from the beginning.

I was named after a pirate (true story). There's always time to learn. :P

I rarely go swimming anymore. It is an activity I love however. I did all sorts in the pool. Good luck with your swimming.

Thank you! I don't know how often I will be doing this, but maybe until summer comes around. At that time, it will be time to swim in the wild streams with the spiders and water snakes!

@OneOfMany Oh yes so much fun swimming in nature. I have a pool here at the apartment complex but will not swim there..there are too many kids with worms in their bums

@Courage7 That sounds awful! No one is de-worming them?

Do like swimming underwater and like it most when goggles are needs and can open the eyes. I don't race but what a great exercise.

I have some goggles. Normally I don't wear them, but with the chlorine, I need to use them. :)

Thank you! I don't think it will be any time soon, but I would certainly like to get it eventually. :)

Plenty of males like to do this I think. I spent a fair bit of time last month in the swimming pool, waiting for some of my charges and got bored, so I watched people swimming instead.

It is fun, and you get a sense of accomplishment. I wonder if they use the same style?

@YrNemo Okay, then it is the same, or at least a similar, technique. That's cool, I knew it was likely for others to use it. I have been the only one to use it among all the people I have come in contact with. Not really a kick as much as a compression movement in my case, but I suppose it looks like kicking from the surface.

@OneOfMany Saw them only kicking their legs & stayed very low at the bottom.

I prefer keeping my head above water. I nearly drowned three times when I was a kid before I learned to tread water. I love to swim but dont get to the beach much. Chlorine in the water at public pools dries my skin so I stay away from them. :-)

I had to take a shower again a little bit ago. It smelled like I was in the pool again! There was a lot of chlorine today. I used to swim like this at the beach. I had a mask and went along the bottom like that, and then ran into a shark! I was so scared, but so was it! We both booked in opposite directions that day. It was just a little 3-4 footer. Sand sharks are harmless. Still, I prefer water where I can see the bottom.

@Starmaiden Aren't there basking sharks up there? I want to see a basking shark. They are huge! The second biggest fish after the whale shark.

@OneOfMany You were fortunate it wasn't a great white. Thank goodness there are no sharks in my neck of the woods. Although there are whales. :-)

I love swimming, though I am not the best swimmer. I cannot swim across a pool without freaking out that I am going to drown. Mostly because I have bad shoulders, knees, and ankles, all pretty important for swimming.

I'm surprised that those don't feel much better in water. My joints always get better when I go swimming. Although, if they are a concern, that can be enough of a reason.
