what I took the neighbors

I mentioned yesterday that I wanted to make some meals for my neighbors who were having a baby, especially since the mom will be recovering from a C-section. Today I put all the meals together and they were just delivered a few moments ago. I made them: Teriyaki meatballs and pineapple with rice and green peas Cheater ravioli lasagna with green beans and rolls Hamburger soup with rolls An entire loaf of bread's worth of PBJs, a package of cheese sticks, and a box of applesauce pouches (they have a toddler, after all) A pack of sturdy paper plates, several sets of plastic flatware, and some foil pans for baking the frozen rolls They were EXTREMELY appreciative, especially since the soup will be waiting in the fridge to dish out as needed and they don't have to wash many dishes. I've been told that I now rank higher than her sister in helping out since her sister made them some food, but left their kitchen a mess. Their baby comes tomorrow. I'm glad they have a little more peace of mind now about having things ready.

I'm sure the baby has been born by now, but I'm leaving them alone for a few days unless I run into them outside. I'm letting them get their bearings again while they figure out everything and find moments to sleep, etc.

@thislittlepennyearnsI haven't given birth in a hospital for nearly 20 years, so I don't know what the standard length stay is for a regular hospital birth. I know she's coming home on Friday (which seems awfully early to me for a c-section).

I just tried to think about what would have been and was helpful for me when my kids were born.

They are lucky to have you as their neighbor. The worst for me is to have to clean the kitchen. Even when I am sick, I do not care to cook, but I surely appreciate if someone cleans the kitchen.

@spiderdust When I went to visit my mother in Italy, I always cooked at home and brought the food there. I prefer to cook in my kitchen and clean my kitchen that to do this in a foreign kitchen.

They thought the PBJs were brilliant. It was a last minute idea with their son in mind, but pretty much any of them can just grab a premade sandwich now when they need it.

They were thrilled, especially with the soup. I should take over another container of it sometime, plus a recipe.

I just wanted to help things to run a bit more smoothly for them. I know how much of an adjustment it is during that first week.
