this is what i get all day out of my mother.. the older she gets, the more picky and gripey she is about food. she does have diverticulitis (i think i spelled that right..meh close enough) and IBS..so often she's kind of crampy.. but often,it's just cause she THINKS she doesn't like it. like she says she hates chickpeas, but i pureed them and hid them in a sauce..she had no clue. once she decides it's icky..it's icky.and will chuck food when i'm not looking, which pisses me off no end (i paid for that!) some days she acts like a 7 year old. won't go to bed..throws tantrums..wants to only eat candy. (she didn't raise me,so there's no paybacks here) *sigh* i think i want to go to work tomorrow after all. FML.

Diverticulitis is not funny, it can cause severe abdominal pain. May be she is grumpy because she is in pain and only feels she wants candies.

i'm aware of that..but she's also manic depressive,so often we can't tell if she's just making it worse than it is.she has a habit of doing that.

Your mother didn't raise you, but you live with her now? It sounds a bit like she has dementia.

This must be hard. I know before my Mom passed she was often like this due to sever depression as well as hurting all the time with fibromyalga

wow. i often think as we age, we become more childish. i try not to be that way but often catch myself acting such and scold myself in my head. like i said to daughter once "when do you think you are my mother and can tell me what to do?" and she answered " when you started acting like a child"

I find both my mom and mother-in-law are both picky eaters the older they get.

I have experience with older folks getting cranky. But not with diverticulitis

with our mother, she wants a "new" dish each meal time. if you cooked a new dish for lunch and there's leftovers, she prefers to eat the leftover sometime tomorrow, not reheat it for dinner that night. you're a good person to care for her inspite of.

You just have to put up with it. Who stays with her when you are at work.

Ask your mom if she needs to see a doctor.

Older adults can be cranky. My Dad can be that way at times. Hey it's not fun being elderly and I bet moodiness is quite common.
