Are you content or happy or both?

Does contentment bring happiness? I do feel content and that makes me happy. But I am not sue if more money, a nicer car would make me happier. Maybe it will but maybe it won't.
Some people need a lot to make them happy like a big house, lots of money, the newest fancy car. Others just want love, companionship, comfort and security to name a few.
There are many people who have little but are content with the life they have and appear to be happy. Others have everything money can buy and may be happy but not content as they are always trying to get more.
Is being content the same as being happy? Can contentment bring happiness?

I think being content means less stress but not necessarily full happiness. Some people accept their situations, but would probably be happier if they had something more. Some are never content until they reach the top - others would settle for midway and be contented. Does that show a lack of ambition? - possibly, but if they are happy that way - fine. Less stress.

That is true, being content does cause less stress but I guess there is always more that we think will bring more happiness.

It seems to me that they go well together. Can one have one without the other?

@Freelanzer maybe all kinds of things are possible. Different degrees, different feelings and different combinations might express our situation in our lives.

I guess it is possible to be content with your circumstances but unhappy. More like grateful but yet not quite happy?

I feel content right now and sort of happy.
Happiness is a feeling of contentment too but sort of deeper and lasts longer for me at least anyways.

It does change just like everything else.
We get upset and we cry and then we smile again.

I am one who has little, but is content and happy (as happy as I can be without my child anyways). As I don't need much to be happy, or ever need big fancy things. Never been my thing. But that's also because of how I was raised with little - but grateful.

And that is what really makes us happy - not needing or wanted a whole lot of material things

I guess they are not quite the same. Each in a way is a decision - or can be a decision. Sometimes for myself, I feel grumpy and unhappy but I can change that my making a conscious decision and effort to be happy or at least happier.

It is rare that I meet people who are both happy and contented. Thats great! I believe that happiness is connected to contentment. I can say that I am both since I am contented with my life (but it doesnt mean I stopped doing things I want to achieve) and happy with the simplicity of my life.

I can relate to that. You still have the need to achieve more and that makes you happy
