Celebrating an Accomplishment with My myLot Money

Every now and then someone will post a discussion asking what plans we have for our earnings. I tend to allow mine to accumulate in my PayPal account (seriously, how much can you buy with five bucks today?). Recently my brother came over to my house to pick some things up. We were reminiscing about our duty stations. After he left I was thinking about my last duty station, which was in Pearl Harbor. By and large, I didn't really care for it...there's only so many times you can drive around the island, and I only saw three concerts there (Willie Nelson, the Pretenders, and R.E.M.). I had that "Alcatraz" feeling. Despite that, there were some cool things to do and see while there. The most notable thing that I accomplished was hiking to the top of Diamond Head. Now they tell us there's "no such thing as an extinct volcano," but "back then" (this was 1984), Diamond Head was listed as such. Despite my asthma I was able to make it to the top. Sadly, all of the pictures I took were with one of those cheesy 126 cameras, so they don't scan very well. Still, the view was STUNNING. Beyond "stunning," actually. The blue of the water and the sky was simply amazing. Yesterday I used my myLot earnings to buy myself a t-shirt that says "I Hiked Diamond Head." I know I could never do it now, with my body parts screaming at me when I walk on level ground plus my asthma much worse than it was 34 years ago, but I did accomplish it. And now I'll have a shirt to celebrate that accomplishment. Here's a video of the beautiful state monument

That's great that you have a shirt to celebrate your achievement. No-one can ever take the memories away.

Only three concerts? Oh, the horror of it all! C'mon Don Ho must have been performing.

He had a standing gig at one of the nightclubs in Waikiki, but I never went to see him.

@JohnRoberts -- look at the bright side: at least you've heard of all three of those acts!

That's impressive. I've never hiked to the top of Pikes Peak, and really have no plans to ever do so, honestly. A well deserved shirt!

That's not my picture in that video. Mine are great -- you can thank God for the beauty He created for that -- but they're on 126 mm "square" pictures, so they don't copy very well. I have a photo scanning project to do in the near future, and I'll try to scan them to show you what I mean.

Now ..that sure is an accomplishment. Yes, the amount is so small that we don't even consider it. But it does add up over a period. We can't keep it in paypal. :( Our central bank transfers it without allowing us to do anything. We have to take permission for keeping it or giving to anybody.

Good for you! I hear you about the screaming body parts but you still managed to spend "all" your money wisely and continue to enjoy the memories.

That's an awesome memento to remember an awesome memory and story. My March earnings will go to PayPal and then go to a couple seasons of the tv series Archer.
