I was about to cry.

Earlier today at the center, I just had my second blood transfusion for this week then after my session the nurse who attended me wants me to bring back the empty bag of blood to the blood bank with a piece of paper. Since the boyfriend is at work. So I don't have a choice but to do it. So I went to the blood bank thinking after I will wait for the boyfriend at the Hospital garden since he messaged me he will come to fetch me. But when the security guard checks the paper I have, he said that I need to go back to the center and have this paper signed by a Doctor. I told the guard it there is a way to uplift that because I just had my session and I'm tired of going back. But the security guard insisted that blood back will not going to take it. I don't have a choice to go back carrying my heavy bag. I was about to cry because I'm tired from the session. So back to center, I told the nurse who attended me that the next time, make sure that the papers are filled in. But the nurse instead asks me if I don't know that. I told him that this is the first time I'm doing this and how would I know besides it's your protocol to have it signed by the doctor. I went to the ER and look for an Internal Medicine Doctor and have it signed. Went back to the center and ask some nurses if there is in need of some information to fill up and they said no. It's okay. I went back to the blood bank, the security guard checks it and said that there is another information that is not filled up. I was about to cry when the boyfriend arrived. I was saved from going back and forth. Some nurses are not doing their work correctly. And I understand them, but in this instance, the nurse should know what to do or know the protocol when it comes to this kind of issue.

it is a new policy now that every bag of transfused blood should be surrendered back to the blood bank because there is a scarcity of bag. i understand that the nurse did not follow her responsibilities well. but we have to consider too, the number of patients that they have to take care of. although there are many graduate nurses, the job opportunities are not equivalent to the graduates. what we ask from the patients, is a little more understanding and patience if we fail with our work. remember please that we nurses are not well-compensated with the heavy burden of helping patients get well. this is my own personal opinion and i do not mean to create any animosity with whoever.

I am afraid I disagree. And this case doesn't apply only for nurses but for everyone. Whether or not they attend to X number of patients/customers, protocol is protocol. Check everything before releasing something. What happens is they tend to do their 'job' in haste and end up messing things- something isn't signed, another document should be submitted, please come back, blah, blah. Soooo inefficient and it's embedded deep in the Filipino system already.

I hate it when all the information is not filled correctly. This time double check what areas so next time you have experience and let them know. Sorry you had to deal with the back and forth.

I was so confident that the paper was filled up with because the nurse who attended me said I should get the bag of blood turn back to the blood bank. I thought I can go home after.

Yes, they were correct in their way! But then people must use the discretion and help out the patients...instead of using the official procedures to harm them! I am not going to express my sympathies for you...instead I would cheer up for your daring and ask you to keep it up dear friend @JustBhem ! God bless! he is always there looking at the welfare of his children!

I understand that some nurses if very busy they forgot things, but what I'm aching about is that he asks whether I know I have to sign the paper to a doctor when in fact it's their protocol to do that not the patient. I know this too shall pass.

That's just wrong. Is there a way to report what happened? Surely, they would want to know what a very sick person has been put through.

The head nurse was the one who checked the paper and told his staff to check the paper especially if the patient doesn't have a watcher.

@Courtlynn That is the protocol, to have it signed by the attending Physician in the center but the nurse looks like he doesn't know about it or he refuse to do it.

That is terrible. I would have been worried you would collapse after having to walk all over that much. They should have been able to call each other on the phone to verify things so you didn't have to run back and forth getting those signatures.

That is what the MedTech told me. That they should have called them. But since the nurse is not doing it properly, I end up the who suffered.

I get very anxious when I gotta deal with this kind of stuff, and when personnel makes mistakes, that doesn't help. I've usually met nice nurses, but exceptions happen. Sorry you had to go through that, I can feel the frustration. It sucks when things go against your plans and drain the very little energy you had left.

Yes, it sucks when nurses forget things concerning about them. What makes me devastated is that the nurse asks me whether I know that I need to have the paper sign in by a Doctor, I didn't know about it to be honest because it's my first time to do it. Normally the boyfriend does it for me. When in fact he should be the one to check the paper if all the information are filled up and has to be signed by a Doctor. I was about to fall on my knees when the security guard told me again that the portion where the one who receives the paper should be signed. Thank God, the boyfriend was there right on time.

They got caught up with their work that they forget how lucky they are that they are not on your situation. They should be re-educated about showing sympathy towards patients Unfortunately, due to their own negligence you are even more suffering as if they think you're not sick. I mean come one a BLOOD transfusion that's no joke! You know it's been months since I had a talk with my Dad and he's also in your situation and last I heard he's getting tired of this dialysis thing. I hope someday you get your kidney transplant.. And I believe that some are just NOT cut out to be nurses, most only do it for money. That's how suck it is.

Thank you understand. Yes, I was so tired last night after the transfusion. The nurse who attended me last night is a new Nephro nurse, he even got my fistula swollen because he needles it the wrong way. Now, I have a swollen fistula now. And I'm not feeling well, maybe because of last night. And the way he prepares the bag of blood is not proper, it was untidy.

Actually, they should inform you about the protocols. Especially the nurses. They are really the one implementing the hospital protocols. I hooe that they will improve their services. Work will be much easier for them and the patient too.

Regular nurses in the center are very helpful and kind to us regular patient but the one who attended to me last night somehow is very relaxing but lack of sense of responsibilities.

@nela13 It should be and not the patient itself. Anyway, I hope the nurse who attended me will learn that not all the time patient can endure the workaround, back and forth.
