The order came in

My glasses came in while I was gone. Luckily, I called the office. Tomorrow the eye doctor will be closed. Many people, many professionals, are taking a day or so for Spring Break. I do not blame them, especially if they have family. I am pleased with the new glasses. I could not see well when I chose them. However, they work TOO well. I can see that I have more wrinkles than I thought I did. The optical tech was also able to "fix" my spares so the lenses stayed in better. Now the spare is in a case, in a drawer. I had some vision insurance that I had forgotten. They were able to file it for me and I saved over two hundred dollars. That was a good thing. My glasses cost more than $600 and that is why I do not get new ones often at all. There is no cheap way to get my correction done. Paying bills and paying for my glasses occupied a large part of my afternoon.

I was actually suppose to go to get my eyes done on the 10th, however since I was in the hospital I didnt get to go. Now I have to resave for them. Wish things that we needed for our health was cheaper. However the good side is Tessa and hubby got theirs.

It is a shame that in our country we do not have vision, dental and hearing care that is affordable.

@GardenGerty Yes we pay about 400 a month for ours and we have no dental and our vision hardly covers anything. Not sure on hearing. Then there is still all the co-pays. *sigh*

It is a shame that your glasses cost so much. We need to make an appointment to have our eyes tested too.

In the US glasses, dentures and hearing are not covered by Medicare, the old age insurance. Now the medical part of the eye exam IS covered but that is all.

I will be saving up for the next ones. I was pleased that my insurance paid as much as it did. I have to see the eye doctor every six months.

My husband had to go through the same thing. His glasses cost so much and he stepped on the all the time so he had to have two pairs to alternate while one was being fixed. Thank goodness for that insurance he put on them when he bought them.

Mine had survived a lot, and I do not put them on the floor. I had occasion to step on a pair that belonged to my first husband. He had put them on the floor under the edge of the bed. We were very poor then and it was a pain, but he had his military issued ones to fill in with.

@GardenGerty I always told him to at least shove them under the couch when he fell asleep but he wouldn't he just set them on the floor then when he got up he would step on them.

@GardenGerty No because number one my eye doctor is a personal friend and two I have a complicated prescription and getting it right is not easy. However, my daughter buys her frames online. I use the frameless ones which are expensive.

No, I am not a good candidate for surgery. I know that it is expensive, but then I have to figure in that I wore them every day for four years, that is pretty good usage. I wish they were cheaper, of course. I also know that if I go with a cheap doctor and lab, I get cheap work that is not helpful or satisfactory.

This is the same amount our insurance pays for eye glasses, no matter the cost, they reimburse the equivalent of $220.

Good to hear you have new glasses. But I am sorry you have to see the wrinkles too. I just bought my reading glasses a week ago

The last time I got my eyes checked and needed glasses, I went to an online discount service with the prescription. It saved me tons of money. My previous glasses cost me $800, but that was for three pairs. With the discount service, I paid only for the regular exam, then bought the glasses for less than $10 each, so the entire exam and glasses cost me less than a hundred dollars, for three pairs of glasses. Reading, Computer, and Bifocal.

As far as I know, my prescription cannot be filled by a discount service. Usually they just refuse because it is so complex.

@just4him My sister wanted her glasses from Wal Mart but her opthamologist would not give out that measurement. Our Wal Mart has the equipment, but are not allowed to do it in our state. So she paid an extra fee (25) to get the Optometrist at Wal Mart to recheck her prescription and get that measurement. She prefers Wal Mart because of the convenient hours. I do plan to send in to try to get some glasses online when we are in a better place financially.

@GardenGerty Ask. It could save you a lot of money. It did me, and my eyes are complex. If they say yes, be sure to get all the measurements, including the PD - pupil distance. My eye doctor wouldn't give it to me because I wasn't buying my glasses from them, but Wal-Mart will gladly give you the reading.
