Do you want this in your beef?

Yes, you guessed it, Ally the Librarian .... I think she's smarter than cats. =)

Ok, as you know I am not a vegan or vegetarian but anymore I just do not trust beef products. The way I figure it is if dog treats are being recalled because of thyroid hormones then what makes you think that hormone is not in the beef YOU are eating? This is why I only buy organic beef, to be organic means they do NOT use hormones nor do those cattle graze on veggies that contain herbicides or pesticides.
Certain lots of these popular dog treats may contain high levels of beef thyroid hormone — and there have already been reports of sickened dogs.

We only buy organic meats and poultry, too, for those exact reasons.

I hope you have an easier time finding organic meats up yonder, here the variety is very limited but I do manage to get things like chicken or ground beef, I don't generally buy the ground beef because it is lean, lean doesn't sound overly healthy to me either.

@rebelann We go to an organic butcher at home and natural food store that sell organic everything. These places are popping up all over the place. We usually buy extra lean ground beef when I make meatballs or hamburgers.

I don't care for lean meats @DianneN something just sits wrong with me about how the meat became lean.

The truth is we really don't know what it actually in any of our food. I say just eat and be merry and let the cards fall where they may. Thinking about it all too much will just drive you bonkers. :)

Can't really argue with that but in the case of food allergies ya really don't have much of a choice.

I wish all food was organic. That would lower the prices and cut down on all the health risks.

It is certainly something to think about that is for sure. But I imagine those hormones are in chicken and pork too!!

I'm not sure about chicken but you're probably right about pork. The only thing I buy that is not organic is the smoked salmon and sardines, those don't cause any issues for me.

Better to buy from farmers who love their job, not companies that only care about profits. When the price is low, you can bet the meat costs less because they used hormones. I also feel sorry for the dogs, maybe it's better to give them the meat we eat (with no salt or spices), unless they have conditions where they have to follow a strict diet. Dogs come from wolves, it's not like they can't eat the real thing but cans, in most cases.

Yes, you are correct on both counts. The only problem I would have by giving my dog the meat I prepare is that it would have to be raw to suite her needs and they say feeding a dog raw meat can give them the idea to go back to their wild roots.

It is very important how our foods are sourced. I think contaminants are everywhere.

Since I have a reaction to things like hormones or chemicals I can tell the difference when the beef is not organic so I either stick with chicken and fish or if I really want beef I buy only organic.

Yes, poor pups but do you really think this stuff isn't in the beef they sell at Walmart?
