Funeral of a Random Stranger?

Life in New Brunswick is never dull. Who says small towns are boring? This afternoon my sister @platespinner, her daughter and I attended the funeral of a random stranger. (@fiacre is sure to approve) Not only did we attend this funeral of a random stranger, we made ourselves comfortable in the front pew. Why? You might ask? The deceased had left instuctions in his Last Will and Testament that he wanted the funeral to be in the church we have been attending and also requested a choir. Friday afternoon, the day after a storm there were limited choir members available. We were drafted (volunteered) to assist. The choir sounded quite good....no rehearsal....good thing we were familiar with the songs. Now I can add that distinction to the number of unusual things I have done.

Anything that @fiacre approves of is OK by me. And think of all the Karma points you got by "volunteering!"

@Morleyhunt 328 apple pies? That's almost enough for me.

I have volunteered for many unique opportunities since moving to New Brunswick. Tonight I'm serving at a dinner....Sunday I'm preparing vegetables for yet another meal I won't be eating. I've mixed pastry for 328 apple pies (hubby helped by peeling apples), I've made baked beans (a first for me) from scratch....I've helped prepare and serve 750 lobster roll take out dinners...fed seniors their dinner......the list goes on.....

That was a very kind and thoughtful thing to do.

@Morleyhunt There is nothing like a little tight-knit community. We felt that in the little country village that we moved from a year ago.

If I want to be part of the community, I need to participate. My sister will also tell you how welcoming everyone has been. She has not felt awkward at any of the events she has attended with me.

Well that is quite an unusual but interesting way to spend an hour.

Definitely unusual (not something I had ever done before) but not altogether unpleasant.

Good on you both for volunteering and bringing a random stranger's last wishes to fruition.

Nice...but a bit odd. We managed to parlay this into a couple of hilarious text exchanges with our family.

That was very unusual experience, but you are kind because you volunteered to help them. Nice attitude.

The beauty of being retired. I had nothing specific planned and could be flexible.

That is very kind of you and your sister to do that! What an odd looking church? It looks like a barn.

I took that photo in October at a small maritime church about 6 miles down the road.

It's a steep stairs...not like the wide highway leading the other way.
