Can someone tell me how writing in a BBS felt like?

There was once this game I played which showed me how operating and hacking back in the old days was like. Unfortunately, I’ve never been in those days. I may be a 90’s kid, but my earliest experience with the internet was playing flash games on an early version of IE. So could someone tell me how they were like back then? I feel like they were probably fun.
