Favorite Big Songs: Big Train (From Memphis) (#5)

Into the top five I roar! I'm looking at my favorite songs that have "little" and "big" in the titles. Having just posted the "little" song, here's the next song on my list of favorites with "big" in the title. Sorry I couldn't be more original, but here's a great repeat.
#5: Big Train (From Memphis) - John Fogerty
Yeah, I'm using another John Fogerty song. Sheesh, you'd think this guy was on my list of favorite rock songwriters or something....
One of the things I love so much about Fogerty is the multiple layers of meaning in his songs. CCR's classic "Bad Moon Rising," for instance, is as much about the political unrest of the time in which it was written as it is about bad weather.
This song is another sterling example of that. The song is about trains, sure; however, it's also about the Memphis music scene in the mid-50s in general, and Mr. Elvis A. Presley in particular. "Like no one before he let out a roar." No kidding! Later he sings, "I'm telling you, when that Memphis train came through this old world was not the same."
Elvis shook up the world. John Fogerty paid lovely homage to him in this fabulous song.

Was this released as a single? We played the hell out of a lot of the album at the station. But not this one, for some reason.

It wasn't released as a single. The "class of 55" (Jerry Lee, Cash, et. al.) covered it.
