Funny The Things That Come To Mind

I hadn't thought of this in years. It's funny, to me anyway, how memories spring into the mind sometimes. Where they come from I don't know. When I was in my late teens I traveled with the carnival for a couple summers. (This was in the late 60's and early 70's.) We would drive all night to the next fairground, set up and then go rest until time to go to work. I worked with an assortment of people. There was one old man I recall with joy. He was a sweet old guy, I think he was an alcoholic. We had adopted him, or him us, and took turns looking out for him and found odd jobs for him to do to make his drinking money. He had some rather weird behaviors. I recall one time we were getting ready to drive to the next fair. It was getting dark and the half dozen or so of the ones I was riding with were piling in the car. The driver looked around and saw that the old guy wasn't in the car yet and commented on it. I happened to look in the rearview mirror and saw the old guy squated behind the car. What in the world?! He was relieving his bowel into a brown paper bag. When the driver called to him he hurriedly got up, wadded the brown bag, throwing it in the waste disposal nearby as he climbed in the car.
