Have you ever saved a fishs life?

Gold Fish - here fishy fishy

I can now say I have. It was quite the experience for me. My sister was sitting on the couch behind me. I was sitting at the computer. She all of the sudden goes, what is wrong with your fish? I turn around and the white gold fish is straight up and down in the tank. I think he's dying right now. They are old anyway and I know its coming. But I get up and look at him and he has one of those rocks that cover the bottom of the ranks in his mouth. So I end up reaching in the tank and he lets me get him. And I just squeeze around him a bit and it pops out. And he happily swims away again. But wow...what an experience for me. I am glad he is still happy and safe.

You gave him a fishy heimlich!! How cute. Be grateful he was still breathing so you didn't have to give him mouth to gill resucitation.

Yeah, I had this betta, he was real cool and personable. He started swelling up real bad, tried everything-meds, salt baths, don't think it was dropsy because of the symptoms-weren't the same. Felt so bad for him. So I was chatting with this lady online, hers had the same thing. She had a vet school nearby, and she told me what they did. Got a small diabetic needle, and stuck him and actually drained the extra fluid out of him. It actually worked lol, he ended up living a few more months. Think he was old anyway though, they usually are by the time you get them. I actually got him from work, they wouldn't let this lady fly out with him on the plane, so I saw him sitting in this bag of cold water, and they gave him to me lol. But, I wouldn't do that again, was kind of extreme I guess for a fish lol, but he was really a cool fish.

Aww what a generous heart you have! I've never saved a fish, I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to do that.

Thank you Well I couldn't just watch him die, when I could see what was wrong. Had to try something. I am just glad he let me hold him...otherwise I wouldn't have be able to do much.

White Goldfish - White Goldfish
I have never saved a fish's life!!! That is soooo funny, but in your perspective that would have been scary!! I would be afraid of squeezing around the fish...I might kill it! Now, if any one ever ask if you have saved a fish's life, you will have a funny story to tell!

Well I knew if I didn't try something he was going to die and I didn't want that, so I had to least try and it just happen to work out nicely. hehe And really I didn't think too much first, I just did it.

There are heros in this world... and then there is you my friend. The bravery that you showed reaching into the crystal clear water of the fish take is off the charts! It is people like you who truely make this world a better place. Do you have a hotline in case our fish should get into some predicament that we would need your guidence on? For real though... Good job!

I've saved a fish's life by letting them go when I catch them, but I've never performed the Heimlich Manuver on one before. The way you describe the rock popping out of his mouth is interesting, too. Kinda makes me think of one of my strangest hobbies: squeezing zits! LOL

LOL This is an interesting question. I can't say I've ever saved a fish's life and I don't know if I ever would. And speaking of rocks in a fish's mouth... I was at a pet expo thing and my sister and I walked by this fish and it was gathering a bunch of rocks in its mouth and swimming over to a different spot and spitting them all out. I guess it was digging a hole, but we found it rather amusing.

There are certain fish, if I am thinking right, that do that...pick up rocks and move them. Normally my fish pick at the rocks to find left over food on them, but never had they ever gotten one stuck. lo And we have had them since 2001.

Nothing like that for me. That's a great story. We did have a goldfish that used to jump out of the water and I'd put him back in. One day, sadly, we weren't home when he jumped out.
