Scary Tornado Season is Here for USA

This is the Season for Tornadoes in the U.S.A. and although we get a few here in Canada- nothing like our neighbours to the South. It can get really scary for those living in the "Tornado Alley" area of the United States. That area is pretty much in central USA and gets most of the tornadoes including the huge, devastating and deadly ones. Although other places get them they mostly occur in Alley which is situated right up the middle of the country. I lived through a minor tornado occurrence when we were vacationing in Ontario's north. A powerful storm roared all night and we were shocked when we woke up in the morning to tree limbs down everywhere and things scattered all over. Considering that we were in a rustic cabin we were glad that was all that happened! Wow! These tornadoes can easily turn deadly and have for many people living in the path of these twisters! Let's hope this year and for years to come the people living in those tornado locations are spared! Have you ever experienced a tornado or a raging thunderstorm where you worried for your life? It is an unbelievable, fearful experience and even though the one I went through was relatively mild- it was not fun at all! Photo- courtesy of Pixabay Free Images

id rather live in tornado alley, unlike an earthquake, you can see a tornado coming.

It must be really scary to have to live through one of those Tornadoes. Someone I know is on holiday over there where there could be tornadoes and maybe with a bit of luck they are already home and safe. We managed to escape a flash flooding it was kind of scary as it all happens in seconds and before you know it you are up to your ankles in water.

@MarymargII Happens a lot here because of the contrasts in weather and I have seen floods elsewhere in the World much much worse also.

I have experienced a tornado in the Bahamas, it is scary. We do not have tornadoes here. The tornado season has started, even if the post powerful are usually from June up to the end of October.

Yes, I've been in a couple tornadoes, as well as typhoons when I lived on Guam. They're not fun.

We have only seen one tornado that came close to our house in Colorado but now that we live in Texas I was told that we live in Tornado Alley. Not looking forward to it at all and its weird but there are not that many shelters here. We might have one put in my grand kids back yard just in case.

@MarymargII They have already had one down below Dallas and where we live is a lot of open fields as they are just starting to build out this way. They just always scare me.

Oh yes, that would be a good safeguard but I'm sure it will be a quiet year in Texas.

@cintol I would also make sure there is a shelter on yours and your grand kids property. It would make for better peace of mind.

We're very lucky in this area as far as tornadoes are concerned. We drove thru Godrich just days after their big tornado a few years ago. Things were quite bad at that time, we actually got directions from a police officer not to stop (I was considering it, but my husband knew better) until we got out of town. Which of course we did. There were bricks still laying on the sidewalks beside hwy 21 that we took thru town.

That was lucky and I think I remember that tornado and it being in the news. I feel sorry for our U.S. neighbours who must have that fear every Spring!

I've been through many horrible hurricanes but I think they are better than a scary tornado.

I was in the path of a micro burst or tornado.....they never actually decided which. There was hardly time to think....let alone be scared....our home and property had $15,000. Damage.....the neighbours had similar damage....no one was hurt.

Oh that was not great! They can do so much damage and are a scary reality in the Spring and Summer.

Even if you were- they would be like a monster to me. I only had that one time and it was in the middle of the night- but would not want to face those huge ones in the USA. Canada, luckily only gets a few.

I have a few friends that live in Tornado Alley. Thank goodness one of them just moved, but still a few more have been living there for years. Tornadoes scare the heck out of me, I remember how my entire town freaked out because we had a funnel cloud before.

Have never experienced a tornado. They are more common in the Prairies. But I have survived many a hurricane. :-)
