And My Dark Side Came Out!

This morning my mylotting time was cut short by a phone call. The doctors office called 2 hours before his appointment to tell me that his referral ran out and "I" need to get him another from his primary care doctor or insurance won`t pay. Okay I tell her, His office opens at noon, so I will do that by phone while he sees the doctor there, have it faxed. She said " Oh no! once you sign in you have to pay, with money." I told her " I will pay if his insurance doesnt pick it up." No maam, I have to have the money up front, she replied. The demon was coming up and fast......... I said" you mean he has waited for 3 months to see the doctor and the whole time he cannot breathe and now you tell him he cant be seen unless he finds money somewhere to pay?" Yes that is what I am saying came the bytches voice. Tony is in the background saying forget it. I told him maybe its time for a nee doctor and I hung up. Then I dialed the cancer center, The patient advocate. She called back within 30 minutes and told him to go to the doctor, you will have to pay a co pay but the referral will cover the rest. Okay that is how Tony got it from her. I get him there and just before entering he said bite your tongue, he knew I was still pissed, not about the money, I got that covered but how poorly she did her job and what she did to him about money and needing the referral at the last minute. I signed him in and I have been told I give this look that .... the look! And she asked for the co pay that is triple what he usually pays and added if I get that referral today he gets it back, I said nothing, still giving the look waiting for the receipt. Then she added I tried calling last Wednesday and got an answering machine, I will try to call again and why don`t you too. "The Look" and I said I intend to call. Then we had to wait 3 hours! Yes it was that full. Got to the back and the nice, fake nice, nurse was icy. She was still on fire about the patient advocate making her do her job. When Dr. Yum Yum got to Tony( I am a sweet angel, the demon has left the building :), yes I go back with him because I will tell the doctor what has been happening and what I have been doing to help him breathe, after he talks to Tony about his problems breathing and what pain and all that. I told him I gave him my medication and it helped him. I tell that he gets to coughing so much he gags and wants to puke. I tell it all because they cannot help unless he knows. The doctor gave him enough medicine to last 2 months and told him to come back and he would give him more, the nurse said " I got him meds approved, I explained he cannot pay $459 for 30 days of meds. While at the nurse station he asked what pharmacy and I said Publix, Fake nurse said " I have been working with the other place with those people." I looked at her and told her we do not go there anymore, that Tony changed his medication since they keep changing the pharmacists,Then I looked at Dr. yum yum and said, Publix gives him free medication. The Dr. smiles and said " oh yeah that is where we want to go!" I felt invisible fire balls being shot into my back by fake nice nurse! I turn around and I tell her thank you, using her first name. When Tony got done I got on the ball, I drove 1 1/2 hour to the primary care doctor and put in for the referral, meaning they would call the referral lady too and not just me. By the time I got home the referral nurse had called, I called her back and she told me she faxed it in with today`s date so he wont have to pay for that visit. Dr. Yum Yum calls Tony is miracle patient, he was not supposed to live. The doctor tells him, I got your back bro! Don`t mess with my patients, my dark side will come out! I am paid to help heal them and that means the office witches will not block him of his care, the unknowing doctors, they really need to know what we have to go through just to get in the back to see him. How was your day?

By andria perry andria, good for you. I hate cold people that do not think for themselves and do not care. Tony is a miracle patient. How long has he had cancer?

@andriaperry That is very hard andria. Does the medication help him? Does he do chemo too? I am sorry if you did write all this already. I cannot remember if I read it already and if it is hard for you to talk about then please do not and I will understand.

@Hannihar No problem. Np not hard at all, I am a caregiver I do not get weepy. Tony took 6 rounds of chemo and 34 radiation treatments. Had a tumor taken from his liver and was in total remission for 8 months. Began Ocdivo to keep it away, however, he did had another tiny tumor come up so he took 10 more radiation treatments and its gone now.

That is really frustrating. To my opinion they should have advised you that at least a month ago. Sometimes these hospitals are more focused on the dollar than on helping someone get better

I'm glad that you stood up to them. The fake nurse has no business working with patients if she can't be decent. I hope your next visit there is much better. They should of kept calling you when they didn't get to talk to you.

Have you tried talking to the doctor about the nurses there. Even calling on Wednesday was not enough time to get things done easy. But glad that it got worked out.

She called my doctors office on Wednesday, not me. I did once before and he acted a little weird. Now I will call and ask for my money back,

@andriaperry Yes you need too. I would try again if he is a good doctor. Nurses like that can run patients off that need to see him. I also hate when insurance requires a referral letter or they will not pay. Most doctors will write them it is just the hassle of keeping them up to date when needed. My insurance was like that when I was pregnant. I actually needed one to see a baby doctor.

My day was slow going but once it was started it was pretty busy. I am hoping I got what I need to be done. I guess I will find out if I sent everything to my boyfriend like he needed through email.

Fortunately my day was nothing like yours. You must be a very strong person to stand up against the bullying. I'm glad at least some people are on your side.

How rude to do something like this, they make your time really hard. I am glad that you were finally able to fix the problem and Tony saw the doctor and can have his medicines.

Thank goodness I live in Canada and healthcare is free of charge. If I had to go through that kind of BS just to see a doctor or get my meds, I know I would have shot someone. :-(
